Instead of the words I long to hear, he says something else.

“I’ve got an idea.”

“What?” I ask him, afraid of what he means by that.

This time Bishop leans in even further so that his lips are brushing my ear.

“Let’s get married.”

I let out a snort. “You’re joking.”

But his face isn’t joking.

“How about we get married tonight, Chloe?”

“What?”

I feel like a broken record repeating myself.

What? What? What?

My whole world is flipping upside down.

Marriage? Tonight?

“Let’s go to Vegas right now and just fucking do it,” he continues, as if he isn’t clinically insane. “I’ve waited seven years for you, girl. I think, Chloe, it’s fair to say you are the love of my life. Why should we wait any longer for something we know is the right thing to do?”

“Bishop…”

“Marry me,” he says in his deepest and most confident voice. “Right now, Chloe Stoll.”

I blink.

Despite the whiplash this is all giving me, it seems right. Too right.

And then I find myself uttering the word yes.

“Yes, I’ll marry you, Bishop.”

My man – my brand-new fiancé – whistles at Axel and Maddie to come over. My hands start trembling as my brother and his own brand new fiancée make their way towards us, but Bishop finds my hand and squeezes it for the hundredth time tonight, forcing my nerves still.

“Sorry to steal your thunder tonight, Axel,” Bishop says to my brother. “But I’ve just asked your sister to marry me. Tonight.”

Both Maddie and Axel stare at us both in shock.

“And you said yes?” my brother asks me.

I can’t even speak. I just nod.

There’s complete silence as we all, except for Bishop, try to comprehend what’s happening.

“Well,” Maddie says, breaking the tension. “Then what are we waiting for?”

If I’ve only got this one life

It’s you I’ll spend it with

Yeah, with you I’ll live my forever
