PROLOGUE
BISHOP
“One day, I’m going to be a rockstar,” Chloe whispers to me in between my relentless kisses on her lips. Her announcement, sinking in after coming out of freaking nowhere, makes me pull back from her.
“Oh, really? You’re going to be a rockstar?”
“Don’t mock me, I’m being serious,” she replies with that cute little pout of hers. I simply smile and ruffle her hair with my hand. She absolutely hates it when I do that, and that’s precisely why I do it every chance I get.
“And I’m being serious too,” I say. “I believe you will be a rockstar, Chloe. I believe you can be whoever the hell you want to be.”
She looks at me. Man. She is the most fucking beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Every time she gazes at me like that with her vibrant green eyes and long black hair, she takes my breath away.
And she doesn’t even know that. She doesn’t know the extent she’s caught me enthralled by her beauty like a prisoner.
We’re sitting on her bed, in her bedroom, and I most definitely should not be here. In fact, I think I would actually be killed if I was discovered to be here by none other than Chloe’s brother… and my best friend.
As if sensing my thoughts, Chloe starts talking about him.
“I will be a rockstar, Bishop. I feel it in my bones. Music is the one thing that gives me passion.”
“Hey, and what about me?”
“And you, of course.”
“That’s better.”
“You know that Axel and I are going to start a band together, right?”
Please let’s not talk about him…
Anything to avoid the best friend I’m currently betraying by being in this room.
“You and your brother?” I ask her.
“Yep. We’re going to be a brother and sister band. Kinda like Angus and Julia Stone.”
“Or the Jackson Five,” I suggest with a snicker.
I lean back to kiss her, but she punches me on the arm.
“No, not them, stupid,” she replies, her cute pout returning with a vengeance. “Axel and I, we’re going to be so cool. A songwriting duo making music that speaks to people’s souls. We’ll tour everywhere and have millions of fans.”
“So,” I say with a deep breath. “Let me get this straight… you’re saying that you’re gonna travel the world with your brother as a famous rock band, touching people’s souls or whatever…”
“Yep.”
“And where do I picture in all of this?” I ask her. “You do know that Axel is my best friend, right? He won’t be happy if I follow you two around like a lapdog screwing his sister.”
“Hey, watch your tongue, mister. You’ll be right there alongside us, Bishop. Alongside me. If you want, of course.”
She’s deadly serious. Sincere about this dream to her bones.
“I somehow doubt that Axel will like the fact that we’re together, Chloe. I mean, we’re still having to keep all this quiet from him and it’s been months.”
Chloe bites her lip, contemplating. “That is one small problem.”
The fact that her brother hasn’t found out yet is a goddamn miracle, and I would very much like things to remain that way.
