When she leaves, I nod at Axel. “I don’t want to be the jealous type,” I say. “Especially when we aren’t technically dating, but that girl has been looking at you all night.”

“Was she? I hadn’t noticed.”

“I’m sure you notice a lot of things, Axel,” I reply. “But keep your eyes on me. Remember, I’m your fake girlfriend.”

“Oh, I’m going to get you back for that little comment,” my fake boyfriend says cheekily, drifting closer to me.

“What do you mean?”

“Kiss me.”

My heart stops.

“What?”

“It’s the best way to seal the fact that we’re a couple in front of this room of reporters and photographers and celebrities and influencers. Kiss me. Now.”

“Lucas never said we should do that tonight. It’s not in our contract…”

But Axel clearly doesn’t care what his manager or our little contract says. He simply leans forward and kisses me on the lips.

His scent overpowers me. The taste of him… his power…

It’s safe to say it’s the nicest kiss I’ve ever had. Initially surprised by his boldness, I melt into it. And him.

When our lips part, he barely moves. “There you go,” he whispers so quietly that only I can possibly hear. “Our first kiss.”

“That’s our relationship definitely sealed,” I reply, also no longer caring about the stupid contract.

“Wait and see what the tabloids say tomorrow,” Axel says with a victorious smirk. “I want to remind you that you just kissed, in public, a man that millions of girls around the globe want. How do you feel about that?”

I bite my lip. “I feel like I need another glass of champagne.”

“How about you call over that waitress I don’t give a shit about?”

I happily do so. My glass is refilled by the well-endowed flirt.

And Axel doesn’t take his eyes off me the entire time.

I really wonder what he’s thinking inside that gorgeous head of his.

“What you staring at?” I ask him.

The rockstar smiles, then turns his head. I think I see a slight shade of blush in his cheeks.

“I’m staring at you, Maddie.”

MADDIE

Axel is about to say goodnight to me, and I really don’t want him to leave me.

What’s going on, Maddie? Why can’t you let him go?

“Goodnight, Maddie.”

He’s about to shut the door to the bedroom. He’s about to sleep on the couch in the other room in the hotel suite. I can’t have him do that. I can’t kick the man out of his own bed, especially after the way he treated me tonight. He made me feel like the only girl in the entire world at the charity thing. The way he stared into my eyes. The way he introduced me to everyone.
