“Well, even if it isn’t I expect you to eat it all,” she replied with a laugh. He had no doubt in his mind that it would taste amazing. One thing he had learned was that she was an amazing cook, no matter what she cooked. It could be as simple as cheese grilled sandwiches, and they would still taste amazing, gourmet even.
“Don’t underestimate yourself, your food is always great,” he said. He could picture them having a Sunday roast with a table filled with delicious food all cooked by Mia. He would, of course, offer to help but she would banish him from the kitchen. He knew she liked to cook alone.
“You’re so kind. Can I pour you a drink while you wait?” she asked. He noticed that she was in hostess mode, aiming to please whoever was around her at all times.
“No, no. Let me pour you a drink. You’ll maybe need it after what I have to say,” he said.
“That sounds a bit scary,” she replied.
“Not at all,” he said as he poured her a small glass of wine. He knew in the back of his mind that if she agreed to go through with his idea, drinking too much wouldn’t be a good idea.
“Okay, well, now that you’ve got me all nervous, tell me what’s going on,” she replied as she took the glass of wine into her hands.
“I thought about it a lot today or more so just a few moments ago, but I thought that if you would be interested, maybe we could go get some tattoos tomorrow?” he asked. He could immediately see the shock on her face. He knew his idea seemed a bit crazy and out of nowhere, but it could be the perfect thing for them.
They weren't the materialistic type of people. They didn't need objects to make them happy, which was also one of the reasons why Sage thought tattoos would be the best option. Although Mia had made an effort around the house to make it look homier, he knew that if it came down to it and long as he had her by his side, he would be happy. There was no reason to hold on to material things considering when death came knocking, there would be nothing he could take with him.
Obviously, tattoos were pretty permanent, even getting a removal left a scar, but there was no part of him that could even think of getting a tattoo that meant something for Mia removed at a later stage. He was 100 percent sure he would be happy with it on him for the rest of his life, but if Mia didn't want to do it with him, he would still want to show her somehow just how much she meant to him and how serious he was about being with her. If she said no, he would think of something else he could do.
“Woah, I don't know what to say to that," she replied.
"You don't have to give me an answer right away. You can think about it. I thought we could do something that symbolizes our bond," he said. He knew Mia was that type of person. She had to think everything through before she acted. He liked that about her. He could see the thoughts crossing her mind, he could see the calculating look in her eyes.
"Okay, okay. Um, alright. Sorry, I'm babbling, I just didn't expect that" she replied.
"Take your time to think about it. I'll give you all the time you need," he said.
"That would work, let me just think about it," she said with a smile. She turned back to the food and finished dinner. They sat in silence most of the dinner, which wasn’t awkward as most people would think. They didn’t seem to mind the silence while they were together. Sage watched Mia carefully for the rest of the night. She didn’t give much away as the night went on. A bit of chit chat was exchanged, a general conversation about how their days had been. Once dinner was done they cleaned up and went to bed. Mia shared a bed with Sage more often, and so when they climbed into bed together, there wasn’t any weirdness.
They laid in bed in silence for a while, both of them thinking of what the next day could hold. Tattoos, tattoos that would be with them for the rest of their lives. It was a scary thought, but Sage was extremely willing to do it, he knew in his heart it was right. Mia was right for him, they were right for each other.
