She elbows the guy before he can say another word. “He’s a good man. Don’t let him scare you away.” Her forehead creases.

“We’re not together.” I hesitate. “We work together, that’s all.”

“Take my word for it. There’s more to it where Walker’s concerned. Y’all have a good night.” She touches my arm with a smile as she walks past us.

“I know one thing; this place is cray cray.” Alden’s brows shoot up. “And full of hot women. Damn.”

“Seriously?” I glare at him. “I mean, right?”

“You gotta admit, the gene pool is deep around here.” He scans the room.

“You’re not so bad yourself, ya know?”

“Ditto, babe.” He offers me his arm, and we stroll out the door.

“Candy, I’m telling you once more to shut the fuck up.” I barrel through the club doors with her in tow.

She jerks her arm, but there’s no use. “You’ve got to be kidding me with this shit.”

“Not on your life.” I hail a cab as far from the front as I can.

“Let go of me or I’ll scream.” She tugs her arm once again.

“Candy, so help me, if you don’t get your ass in the cab and stay away from us, God as my witness, I’ll make you regret it.” I glare down at her.

She reaches for the cab handle, turning to me. “I hope she’s worth it because this is twice you’ve sent me packing. You’ll not get another chance.”

“Thank fuck.” Her mouth falls open, giving me the chance to slam the door shut.

As the cab drives off, I turn to watch Reese leave with Alden. “Son of a bitch.” I fist my hair in a fit of rage. “I can’t catch a fucking break.”

“Wonder why that is?” I jump, grabbing my chest when Riley sneaks up beside me.

“Fuck,” I growl. “Yeah, I know.”

“Although, I have to say this is better than zombie Walker,” he laughs.

“Fuck you, asshole,” I grunt. “She’s… damn, she’s…” I blow out a long, steady breath.

“So, what’s your plan?” he asks as we turn back to the club.

“I’m not sure, but I’m positive groveling will be involved.”

He shakes his head, his brow furrowing. “I don’t think so. She’s badass.”

“She was seconds from beating Candy’s ass.”

“Damn straight.” He chuckles. “Next time, give it a couple before you haul anyone away.”

I come to an abrupt stop. “Riley?”

“Yeah?” A line creases his forehead.

“Reese said something I’m not sure how to absorb.”

“From what I gather, there wasn’t much talking.” He crosses his arms with a smirk.
