They all start laughing their asses off, until my brother opens his mouth. “It’s not over.”

Everyone’s stunned into silence as I shake my head in disbelief. Are they so hungry to see me get my comeuppance they would see anything happen to me? My jaw tightens as I finish the story.

“Yeah, this is where I really get my just dues. Right, brother?” He frowns as I continue. “She ditched me. For the first time in my life, I was left to wake up to an empty bed. Of all the things I’ve done in my life, I never understood how this made someone feel. I love women, all of them. I’ve never hid who I was, am.

“Lachlan gets back and rolls into the office to announce we have an interview coming. Now, if you can imagine my surprise when ‘she’ walks through the door. I’m still in shock, and she’s still a helluva a woman.”

“Who walked through the door?” Maisyn slides her arm around Lachlan.

One chuckles. “The woman who ditched Lennox.”

“Lola?” Maisyn asks.

“Yes, she’s working for us now.” I cut my eyes at Lachlan. “Although, I’m a little worried about it. What are the chances the same woman who left me, applies to work with us?”

“You think she set you up?” One asks.

I shrug. “I have no clue, but I can’t help but wonder.”

Maisyn tilts her head. “Are we still talking about Lola? The same one Reese represented in her divorce?”

“Hey, Reese said she’s great,” Walker says with a nod.

“Are you sure we’re talking about the same person?” I stare at Maisyn.

She looks over at Walker and One. “She went last weekend with the girls to Las Vegas.”

“Wait. Lola Turner?” Hardy’s face hardens.

Everything begins to spin, and I feel light headed. I turn to Lachlan, silently asking for help. His frown deepens.

“Hang on, everyone.” He stops them, side eyeing me. “First, Lennox had no idea who she was or where she was from, so it may not be the same person.”

“She just moved here after getting divorced and went on a girls’ trip last weekend. She’s intelligent and has a body that will make you want to sin.” Walker’s eyes move around the group, and the ground falls from under me.

Hardy’s nostrils flare. “And my cousin.”

“I can’t fucking believe this.” I rub my brow a little too intensely.

“We’re good, as long as you stay the hell away from her,” Hardy growls.

Riley chuckles. “Look, Walker, Hardy hates someone more than you now.”

“Hang on a second, Lola dumped me.”

“Damn straight she did!” Hardy says. “Like you didn’t deserve it.”

“You mean, like I don’t deserve Lola,” I sneer.

“Hey”—Lola glances at me—“what’s going on?”

I had no idea she was going to be here. Now she’s going to think I was standing over here talking about her. I know no one here will take up for me or even try to explain what happened.

“You’re all right. I don’t deserve a damn thing.” I slip behind Lachlan, walking back the way I came.

“Lenny, wait!” One yells.

I’m closing the gate to the beach access when I hear a voice. “Len. Lenny. Lennox!” Lachlan pops up over the dune, glaring at me.
