“No problem, I don’t mind.” My heel clicks on the floor as I trot my leg.
He cuts his eyes at me. “I wanted you to know, if there’s anything you need or something you can’t find, Alice has been asked to help you.”
“So I shouldn’t come to you?” My chest tightens.
“If you’d prefer, that’s fine.” He writes something down. “I was thinking you might want to steer clear of me, and I wanted to make it easy for you while you’re here.”
“I don’t mind working with you. There might be things she can’t answer or doesn’t need to.”
“Of course.” His jaw ticks. “Let me show you to your office.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll just grab my things.” I fidget, feeling like I’ve said something wrong. I gather my things, dropping stuff as I do. Get it together, Lola. I look up to find a hand.
“May I?” He takes my briefcase and the envelope, waiting for me.
“Thank you.”
“This way.” I follow him toward the door, drinking in his cologne and thanking the sex gods above for his nicely fitting suit. I’m busy checking his assets when I run into a wall. I’m wrapped in warmth and strength that are Lennox’s arms.
“Oh, no. Please tell me I didn’t do that.” I peer up into his whiskey-colored eyes full of desire. I think I’m in trouble.
His lips twitch. “Yeah, you did that.”
“I am so sorry.” My heart races from the feel of his hands on me.
“Are you okay?” His words wash over me, and I fight not to take his mouth.
I lick my lips. “I think I’m good.”
He releases me, allowing me to hold his hand until I’ve regained my balance. “Thank you, again.”
“No problem.” He inclines his head toward the door. “This way.” He pauses, glancing back at me. “I’m going to hold the door open for you.”
“I think I get it now. I’ll wait here.”
He chuckles. “Here you go.”
“All clear?” My eyes dart around the room.
“All clear, you may walk through.”
“Stop it.” I roll my eyes at my chagrin and watch him fight laughing at me.
He nods. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Go ahead, I know you want to.” I wait for him to follow me out. He smiles coyishly, and I think I might faint.
“This way.” I turn to find him standing at the door next to his. He opens it with a key card and holds it wide.
“Again, thank you.”
“You might need to stop saying it, or we’ll be here all day.” He snickers.
“True, it’s polite, though.”
“I can’t argue with that.” He half shrugs. “This is Lachlan’s office. I’m not sure why he had it built, as he’s never used it.”
I spin around, giving it a quick onceover. “It’s perfect, thank you.”
