I lean forward, never taking my eyes off her, hitting the intercom. “We’ve changed our minds. Take us back to the hotel.”
She points to the mini bar. “You better hand me something before I lose my nerve.”
“I’d prefer you choose to be with me than to allow the alcohol to decide for you.” I pour her a whiskey, handing it over.
She takes it, slamming it back. “It’s called liquid courage, not decision maker.”
“Point taken.”
Lola watches me carefully. “You’re not drinking?”
“I don’t need either to be with you.”
Her mouth twitches. “Do you even believe the shit you talk?”
“Excuse me, I’m crushed.” I lay my hand on my chest.
She pushes on my shoulder, giggling. “Oh, stop.”
“We’re here.” Something deep inside me stirs as I watch her eyes begin to burn.
We come to a stop, and I waste no time waiting on the driver. I push open the door, climbing out. I offer her my hand, helping her out before tipping the driver.
“Thank you.” I turn to her. “Shall we?”
She takes my arm. “Yes.”
We walk through the lobby, heads turning as we do. I have no doubt all eyes are on this beautiful woman on my arm. The silence is deafening until the elevator arrives. She’s completely different when we’re alone.
I push the button for the penthouse, and Lola gasps beside me.
“What?”
She shakes her head. “The jolt, it tickles my belly.”
“Here we go.” I hold the doors open so she can step out, and she turns to the right. I don’t remember telling her which penthouse. “Let me get the door.” I swipe the card, swinging it open for her.
“Thank you.” I follow her through the door, watching as she slips her shoes off and walks to the window. “This view is spectacular.”
“Yes, it is.”
She whips her head around, gazing at me. “There you are. I knew it wouldn’t take long.”
“What do you mean?”
She turns, leaning against the window seal. “For the real man to come out.”
“I haven’t left. I’ve been here the entire time.”
Lola’s fingers trail down the inside of her low neckline, brushing her breasts as she spreads her legs. “Is that so?”
“Yes.” It comes out like a growl, as I watch her every move.
She lays her hand on her bare inner thigh, running it up slowly. “What is it, Lennox?”
Heat burns deep, as a frenzied desire takes over my good senses. She wets her lips, and my pulse is off to the races. I stride across the room, making it to her within three steps.
I lay my hand around the soft skin of her neck, tangling my fingers in her dark hair, dragging her scent in like a wild animal on the hunt. Her beauty intoxicates me, but it’s what she’s hiding from me that ignites this desire in my soul.
