“Girlfriend?” Carter’s head whirls around at my question.

“No…” His mouth turns up. “I don’t do girlfriends.”

I avert my eyes. “Oh, I should’ve guessed.”

“Guessed what?” His thigh brushes mine as he sits beside me.

“No relationships.”

“I personally think we’re too young to be attached.” He shrugs. “Besides, we just met as it is.”

“Oh, yeah. I wasn’t implying we…” I motion between us. “It’ll never happen.”

He leans in. “Bet me.”

“In your dreams. Five seconds after meeting you, I knew.”

“Knew what?” He rears back, skeptical.

“That you, Carter, are a player.”

He lays his hand over his heart, batting his lashes. “Excuse me, I’ve never.”

“PLUH-ESE!” I roll my eyes.

“I’m truly hurt.” He turns his nose up. “You’re mean.”

I burst into a fit of giggles. “You’re also a terrible faker.”

He springs up. “How dare you, I’m leaving.”

“Baby, don’t.” I pull on his hand, still snickering. “Stay.”

“Only if you apologize.” He pretends to snub.

“You’re insane.”

He smiles, and the world stops spinning. “I’m a little crazy.”

“I’d say a lot.”

“Let’s go back to my place and hang for a while.” He tugs at my hand, making my heart race. The thing is, I’ve never been alone with a guy before, and although my head is telling me it’s too soon, my heart is screaming YES!

“Sure.”

We take our time walking across campus to his apartment. I suppose when you’re a legacy, there are no dorm rooms in your college experience. We pass my building on the way, so I stop to drop my things off.

“Would you like to come in?” I unlock the door, pushing it open.

“Of course, I’m not going to stand in the hall.”

I flip on the light and drop my bag. “Give me just a minute. I want to change.”

“Need some help?” He lifts his brow.

My face flames. “Not on your life, Eastman.” I grab a t-shirt and sweats.

“No.” He takes the sweats from me. “Keep the jeans on.”

“My, aren’t we demanding.”

“Sweats are never a good look.” His brows knit, and my stomach tightens.

“Okay, no joggers.” I hurry into the bathroom and change my shirt, slightly disgruntled over the pants. I shake it off and brush my teeth before going back.

He's standing by my desk, looking over my family pictures. “Nice looking bunch.”

“Thank you, I’d have to agree.”

“You ready?” His eyes sparkle when he smiles, captivating me.

“I am.” I grab my purse as he holds the door. “Lead the way.”

“Always.”
