“Shall we?” He points to my office.
“Leave the door open, Lola.” Lachlan doesn’t ask, and for once, I don’t mind.
I spin on my heels, winking at them. “Will do, boss.”
Carter follows me into my office, taking the seat behind my desk, as usual. He thinks it speaks as to his power over me, but it tells me he’s an ass. I stand with my hands on my hips.
“What can I do for you?”
He smiles, creeping me out. “I thought we could have dinner.”
“I’m seeing someone. I can’t.”
“Oh, I think you can.” He smirks. “He’s a little preoccupied from what I hear.”
My jaw ticks. “What would you know about it?”
“Word in this industry travels fast—the twin is out, and you’re next.” His eyes are mere slits in his stupid face.
“Lola, Lachlan wants the Charlotte file.” Maisyn pops her head in the door to check on me, with a remarkable decoy.
I glance at her. “One second and I’ll get it for you.” I step closer to my desk when Carter hands it to me. “Thank you, now get out of my chair.”
I walk toward Maisyn when the room starts to spin; it’s like an out of body experience. She reaches for me as I stumble. “Are you alright?”
I nod, my eyes growing with each second that passes. “Yeah, I’m going to leave a little early. Carter wants to have dinner.”
Her brows shoot up. “Are you sure?”
I hold my cell in front of me, peering down at it. Her lip quirks. “We’re good. He’s rather innocent.”
“Alright, have a good time.” Maisyn forces a smile.
I plaster on a smile and turn to face Carter. “Let me get my purse.”
“We’ll need to swing by your place. You’ll need to change.” He has beady eyes, gross.
“Sure,” I answer through gritted teeth.
