She saunters around the desk, her teeth sunk into her bottom lip, turning it crimson. “What can I do for you, Lennox?”

I sit up, leaning toward her. I slip my hand around her wrist and tug her onto my lap. I spin us around so the chairs back is to the door. I wrap my hand around her neck, and she fights me.

Her smile transforms from playful to desire-filled in two seconds flat. I lay my hand on her face, running my thumb across her lip. I lick mine as I do and feel her heart ramp up as she follows the tip of tongue.

Her breasts heave when her breath hitches, causing her to buck on my lap. Everything in my body goes from sixty-five to one hundred. I drag her mouth to mine, taking her as fast as I can.

As we meld into one, her lips work mine, and our tongues war for the lead. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Her arousal front and center as she presses her chest against mine.

We part with hesitation, more to just breathe as our need for the other is palpable. All I can think of is taking her on my desk. She rests her forehead against mine as we struggle to regain our breath.

“Lennox”—her face is marred with worry—“I need to ask you something.”

I lean away from her. “You can ask me anything.”

She takes a deep breath. “The other day, when Lachlan called, what happened? Don’t say nothing. I’ve had a lifetime of ‘nothings’, and I can’t handle it this early.”

“Slow down. I’ll tell you.” My stomach plummets. “Lola, I have stuff in my past I’m not proud of, and certain things bring them roaring back.”

Her face falls. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked.”

“No, you should have. I want you to ask. I want to ask you if I need to know something.” I run my hand up her back. “I’ve made so many mistakes. I’ve dated … a lot. At the time, I didn’t care, but to have you know, to hear about it, it killed me.” My stomach knots as regret fills me.

She traces my brow with her finger. “I don’t have a problem with your past, unless it shows up in front of me.”

“I’ll do my best to make sure it doesn’t.”

She kisses the corner of my mouth. “And the other thing.”

“You don’t miss a thing, do you?”

She grins. “Not really.”

“I’ve always felt second best. Second son. Second to graduate. Second chosen. I try hard to not let it affect me, but I couldn’t stop it. So when you teased you would see if one of the neighbors would want me, it messed with me. I’m sorry.”

“Never apologize for how you feel, that much I do know.” She presses her lips to mine.

“What else do you know?”

“I know that I like you.” She presses her lips to my cheek. “I really like you.” And again, to my neck. “Like, really like you.” And right below my ear.

“Lola, you’re getting ready to find out how much I really like you too, if you don’t stop.” I take her mouth as my blood pulses though my body.

The phone buzzes. “Mister Daly?”

We tear ourselves apart, so I can answer. I hit the intercom. “Yes, Alice.”

“Miss Turner has a call in her office.”

“Thank you. She’ll be right there.” I turn it off, pulling Lola closer. “Go, before I lose all control and bend you over my desk.”

She locks my head in her elbow, pushing my head back when she smashes her mouth to mine. “Fine, but this”—she stands, waving her hand over my desk—“will happen.”

“I’ll pencil you in.”

“Make it ink.” She winks, and I can’t stop smiling.

Lust fills every part of my body and mind as I openly gape at her as she walks away, swaying her hips. She straightens her dress and blows me a kiss before opening the door.
