“You know about him and Rage?”

“It was new information to me. I guess if he’d take out the rest of the family, what’s one more brother?” I said dryly.

“Basically. Either way, Rage will lose his shit at the Soldiers and they’ll be in hiding to lick their wounds. It gives us time to figure out how to get them off your back.”

Marco gave him a dirty look, saying what I was thinking. “What do you mean by us? You helped her tonight, so let Skeet handle his shit tomorrow.”

“I’m not arguing with you about this tonight,” Hunter answered sharply, motioning to the bedroom door and looking back at me. “There’s an ashtray in there if you want to be alone. Here.”

He handed me a couple more cigarettes and a lighter, and I wasn’t going to sit out here being glared at by Marco any longer, so I said good night and headed to bed.

Once I made sure the door locked like Hunter promised, I turned on the lamp and switched off the main light so I could get into bed.

I wasn’t going to risk something happening to Skeeter’s jacket, so I tucked it into bed beside me out of view.

Exhaustion took hold and I butted out the rest of my cigarette, deciding to leave the lamp on so nothing could hide in the shadows, then I burrowed into the pillows and fell asleep almost instantly.

Skeeter

“Skeet?”

“Hmm?” I glanced up from my desk to find Brick in front of me.

“I asked if you’re ready to head home. Most of the guys have left. It’s almost three,” he stated, and I shook my head.

“I still have a few things to do. You can go though,” I mumbled, scrubbing a hand over my face to wake myself up a little.

“You’ve done enough tonight, man. You need to sleep or you’ll be useless tomorrow. Need you sharp,” he answered and turned to leave.

“Brick?” I called out, making him pause to look back at me. “Thank you for this morning. You risked your life for her. I won’t forget that.”

“I know she ruffles some feathers, but I don’t think she’s that bad. Considering how she jumped into action to try and save Slash, I think my opinion of her is correct. I’ve got her back.”

That made one of them.

I’d gone through the footage to see what the fuck had gone wrong. Slash had unlocked the old bathroom door, but Matteo had locked himself inside and smashed the window out when bullets started flying.

The office being locked was just unfortunate.

I’d seen Brick shield Rory, as well as Diesel and Slash keeping her safe as they tried to get her out like I’d wanted.

I’d seen Slash kiss her too, but I wasn’t ready to face that. My emotions were too raw and angry right now, so I knew I wouldn’t make sense of whatever they’d had going on.

He’d loved her, but had she loved him? I was pretty sure that wasn’t their first kiss, so how long had they been doing that for?

Had they spent nights together? Was she vulnerable around him like she was with me?

Did he know what it felt like to sink inside her and make her come?

The bigger question was why the fuck hadn’t they told me?

The more I racked my brain for answers, the more questions appeared, and I was suddenly second-guessing all of their interactions.

The door closing had me glancing up, and Diesel moved towards me, Brick apparently gone.

“Sorry to be that guy, but I’m crashing with you tonight. Buddy system until we know there won't be a second attack,” he yawned, sitting on the edge of the desk. “Have you checked in with—”

“No. I can’t handle that tonight, and she’d be asleep. I’ll check in with her tomorrow,” I said, cutting him off.
