The question landed harder, and Eira felt it immediately.
Leander noticed, as he always did, yet he waited.
"I don't know."
"That's two questions you've answered the same way."
Something about the observation irritated her.
"What exactly are you looking for?"
Leander's gaze remained fixed on the path ahead.
"A plan."
The answer arrived without hesitation.
Eira blinked.
"A plan."
"Yes."
"You assume I have one."
"No."
The reply was immediate.
"I assume you don't."
That irritated her even more.
"Then why ask?"
A faint smile appeared.
"To confirm it."
Eira stopped walking.
Leander continued another few steps before noticing, then stopped as well.
The wind carried the scent of cold water from somewhere beyond the hills.
For several moments neither spoke.
Finally Eira folded her arms.
"I left Ironfang weeks ago."
"Yes."
"I crossed half the west."
