Wendy’s scent grew even stronger, and he breathed a mouthful of tart plum before he rolled her over, pressing her into the blankets and pillows she’d spent hours arranging.

“No, because I want to take care of you,” he admitted.

Her lips were just as sweet as her scent.

Chapter 19

WENDY

Wendy was in trouble.

Big, big trouble.

When she rolled over and groaned in the morning, her first thought was Nic, her knockout beta.

Where was he? What was he up to, and Griffith? Was that damn alpha trying to seduce him while she slept in?

Nothing had made her move so fast. As she showered and dressed in record time—thank you, jealousy—the evening’s events replayed in her mind.

Nic had a praise kink.

He and Griffith totally weren’t over each other.

Griffith was trying to steal her man.

And… okay, fine. Wendy might have been attracted to all the alphas.

Her cheeks refreshed their color on the way downstairs.

She recalled the things that had come out of her mouth. The sinful words Nic had whispered in her ear. It was in the moment, so it didn’t mean anything… right? Just because she came on Nic’s silicone knot to him talking about how hot it would be if the alphas were there didn’t mean… didn’t mean…

Wendy stopped, finding Nic in the kitchen, leaning against the counters. His arms were mostly crossed, except for the hand holding his mug of coffee.

It didn’t mean she was ready to go there. With any alpha. It was too…

Stupid.

“Hi,” she greeted lamely.

Nic picked his head up, they shared pink cheeks and two secret smiles, and Wendy was across the kitchen, tasting him again.

She didn’t care how much time had passed, being petted by Nic and stroking her fingers across his forearms in return. It was nothing short of… lovely.

Wendy hadn’t ever gotten a morning kiss just because she wanted it. And definitely not one that made her belly flutter and her thighs clench.

But she couldn’t kiss him and put off her problems forever. So she pulled back and stared up at him, even if there was a dopey smile on her face.

After last night, there was no way they could continue without laying some ground rules.

“Well hi there,” he greeted. “Sleep okay?”

Of course. I mean. I did come to the thought of Griffith knotting me last night.

Griffith. Nic’s ex. Granted, Nic himself said he was into it. But what did that mean? And when would be a good time to talk to him?

Wendy nodded, stepping away with a yawn. “You?”

“Very well. I don’t know about the others though.”
