“Come on, Sugar,” Cal said through clenched teeth. “Come for me, one more time. Come all over me as I come.” He looked down into my eyes, and the feral need shining in them was as intoxicating as the rest of him. “Touch yourself, come for me.”

Slipping my hand between our bodies, I rubbed at my clit as he fucked me.

“Ahhh,” I yelled, and bucked up hard to meet him as the orgasm teetering on the edge pushed over, and I tumbled down the other side.

“Fuck yes, Sugar, oh fuck,” Cal yelled, his thrusts became erratic a second before all his muscles flexed and he froze in place. I felt him coming, and with each pulse, he set off a series of miniature climaxes, prolonging the wave I rode.

Breathing hard, Cal collapsed on top of me as he softly kissed me. He rolled us onto our sides and gripped my ass tight, his lips never leaving mine. Cal pinned me against him with his leg before he pulled the edge of the blanket up and around us.

“Fuck that was amazing. You are amazing,” he whispered against my lips. “I love you, Skye.”

“I love you, Cal,” I said, my eyes suddenly so tired that I could hardly keep them open. Before I fell asleep, I looked up at the Christmas tree to the angel perched on the very top and smiled.

Christmas miracles really do happen.

CHAPTER TWENTY

SKYE

“I still can’t believe you didn’t tell me all that,” Hales scolded me for the millionth time. “I’m your best friend, and I was at that party.” She shook her head. “Son of a bitch, I never liked Alex, but he was one of Cal’s friends, so I tolerated him, but this…this is…ugh.” Her frustration was palpable, and I regretted coming clean on the ride to the arena. “I swear if I’d known, I would’ve ripped his wormy little dick right off his body, chopped it up, and made him watch as I tossed it into a soup, boiling on the stove. Then I would’ve forced it down his throat,” she snarled, and I looked around at the people we were passing to see if any of them noticed the detailed torture she had planned. Luckily, it was loud, and everyone was distracted with getting drinks and food or trying to find the aisle for their seat.

She grabbed my arm, and if there was such a thing as murder in someone’s eyes, then Hales had it now. “Then I would’ve….”

“Shh.” Dragging her to a quieter corner, I took a deep breath. I knew why Hales was so upset. We told each other everything, had since we were old enough to talk, and I’d kept this horrific thing from her. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I wanted to. So many times, I pictured what I would say and how to say it.”

“You let me believe you cheated on Cal in a drunken haze. I mean, I still loved you no matter what. I just don’t understand why you didn’t think you could tell me of all people.” She crossed her arms, hurt written into every feature.

Grabbing her, I pulled her into a hug. “I’m sorry. I knew you’d be murderous, and I couldn’t take the chance of Alex releasing the info on Sammie. I swear, I never wanted to keep anything from you. You’re like my sister and best friend, all rolled up into one amazing person. The best person.”

Relaxing, she hugged me back, and I knew the worst of her fury was behind us. “I know. I’m just sorry that I was so out of it that I never noticed you were missing or that anything was wrong. I should’ve noticed something, even if it was just when Cal stormed out. God, I feel like such an idiot.”

Pulling back, Hales had tears running down her face. “I failed you and all of girl code to look out for one another. It happened right under my nose.”

I had run the gauntlet of emotions for three years, and now I watched as Hales dashed through all the feelings at warp speed.

“You’re not an idiot, and there were like a hundred people at Tyler’s party. You could hardly move. How could you have noticed that I was missing with the loud music, the dancing, the drinking, and dating that new guy, Drew.”

“I still should’ve known like a spidey sense or something.” She looked down at her runners and then back up at me. “It’s terrifying that it happened like that, with someone we knew, it….”

“Is terrifying?”

Hales nodded. “Yeah, it really is. That’s the kind of thing you hear about happening and think, that’s horrible, but it won’t happen to me or anyone I know,” she said, and there were no truer words. I’d played over every interaction with Alex over the years and wondered when I just accepted the oddity in his behavior and shut off my red flag meter.

Hales hugged me again, squeezing me so tight that it made it hard to breathe. “I love you, don’t you ever fucking keep something like that from me again. Not that I think something like that will happen again. I just mean….”

I laughed, hugging her back. “I get it, and I won’t. I promise. I have learned my lesson.”

Hales turned to me as we rejoined the flow of human traffic and narrowed her eyes as she tapped her lip. It was eerie that she and Cal did the exact same thing when they were thinking.

“What?” I wasn’t sure I wanted to know, but I asked anyway.

“You said you consider me your sister and best friend?”

“Yeah, of course I do.”

“Huh.”

“Huh? You can’t leave me on, huh. What the heck does that mean,” I asked as we got in the line that would take us down to the lower bowl seats that Cal had booked for us.
