“Not only are you a slut, but you’re a liar,” he said. The enraged energy coming off of him was terrifying. He seemed to genuinely believe whatever fantasy he had built up in his head. He’d tried to contact me multiple times after the night of the party, but I refused to speak to him until he sent me the first text with a picture of Sammie. He knew my weak spot.

He took another step, but this time, I moved sideways, and he narrowed his eyes.

“I’ve never been either of those things, and you know it. I never cheated on Cal. I couldn’t fight you off at the party. That’s called rape, Alex. You spiked my drink and raped me.”

“Keep lying to yourself, but I know you wanted me. I could see it in your eyes, and I made it possible. That was all I did.” My eyebrows shot up. “Don’t look surprised. I’d watched you for a long time. I knew everything you liked. You came for me, Skye. You can’t lie and say you didn’t enjoy it.”

I grabbed my stomach as it rolled. It was a good thing I hadn’t eaten yet, or I would’ve thrown up. Tears burned my eyes, but I held my head high. Too many nights were spent wide awake as I stared at my bedroom door.

“I hate you. You’re fucking sick.” The corner of his mouth turned up.

“Then why didn’t you ever turn me in? Why not go to the police and tell them what I did to you if it was so terrible?”

“You damn well know why,” I said, seething.

“Yes, I finally freed you from the relationship dragging you down. You were always stressed out and worried that Cal was cheating on you. You didn’t like going to the rink every night and seeing those girls calling out to him, and trying to get his attention after a game. I could see the fear in your eyes that one day, he would leave you behind. He would’ve to, no matter what he says, he never loved you.”

“You’re a liar.”

“Am I? I saw him staring at those girls, I’m pretty sure he have a few his number to.” I couldn’t picture Cal doing that, but Alex was picking at an old scab. “Look at him now, he has a new girl on his arm every week. You may have thought you loved him, but you wanted out. You just needed the door and I gave it to you.”

I stood my ground this time when he took a step. I hated that part of what he said was true. Not the wanting out or being with anyone else, but I was always scared. My self-esteem wasn’t the best back then, and he was purposely trying to exploit that. The thing was I knew Cal’s heart and I wasn’t going to let Alex get inside my head and mess with me.

“I loved Cal then, and I still do, and no matter what you say I know he loves me. It’s you that I never wanted. I can barely stand the sight of your face.” My body was shaking with the anger that was running though my veins. “I tried to fight you off. I pushed you away and tried to crawl for the door, but I remember you laughing as you dragged me back to the bed. You can’t stand there and say I wanted it when you had to drug me and then still fight me to sleep with you.”

A thought hit me, and I glared daggers at Alex. “You knew Cal was coming, didn’t you? You knew he was coming, so you left the door unlocked. I always wondered why you were so careless about that, but you wanted him to find us and leave me?” His smirk grew. “You knew I loved Cal, and you were supposed to be his friend. Why would you do this to us?”

“Yes, I left the door unlocked. I figured you were too weak to walk away from all the dollar signs of the famous Callum Reeves,” he said and rolled his eyes.

“I never cared about Cal’s money”

“Sure you did, just like everyone else, but I also knew you’d never admit that you had feelings for me, just like I knew you would crawl to him and beg forgiveness, and then all my hard work would’ve been wasted. But Cal wouldn’t want you once he saw who you really were and that you didn’t want him anymore. I knew he’d think you were a whore and so much so that you slept with his friend.”

“I never wanted you. This is madness. You’re crazy Alex, are you not hearing me?” I couldn’t believe this. It was so much worse than him just being an asshole. He was on another planet. “Did you not figure that out when I didn’t announce my love for you? It’s been three years and other than your threats we haven’t spoken or seen one another until now. Like how can you possibly think I had feelings for you?”

“Have.”

My eyebrows rose. “You think I still do? Wow, you need help. Hear me when I say this, I never wanted you, and that includes now.”

“You can’t admit it because you’re weak!” He bellowed, his body shaking.

He not only raped me but set out to destroy my life, all for some delusion in his head. I felt like a snarling animal as my hands clenched so tight that the phone and my nails dug into my palms.

“Just so you know, I went to the hospital and had a rape kit done.” The arrogant leer fell. “That’s right, Alex, you can think whatever you want, but I was going to have you tossed in jail for what you did to me. The officer who took my statement is waiting for me to give her the word, and when I get back, I’m going to tell Sammie everything. You’ll be arrested for rape, exploiting a minor, and whatever other charges I can have brought against you. I don’t care if it takes the rest of my life. You will pay for what you did to me and Sammie.”

It still gutted me that my baby sister had felt so lost that she sought out strangers in a chat. One of the boys she liked ended up not being a boy at all but Alex. He’d planned everything right down to the only blackmail that would keep my mouth shut. The depths of his depravity and the lengths he was willing to go scared me. I could remember clearly how proud he was as he showed me the texts where he systematically broke down the last of her self-esteem and made her feel like he was the only one who loved her. She sent him pictures and videos, and he kept them all, threatening to release them on every platform he could to keep me in fear. It would destroy her to have all her personal and heartfelt messages out there with the dirty photos.

“You wouldn’t dare,” he said.

“Oh yeah, and why is that?”

“Because I will ensure that even if you manage to get charges to stick, your sister’s entire world blows up around her. Every news station will show her face and talk about her, and the world will see just how stupid she was. She won’t be able to get a coffee without hushed whispers and people staring at her, wondering if she is the girl in the pictures. Every guy that knocks on her door will already have seen her naked and let’s not forget that she will hate you forever,” he said and smiled.

I lunged for Alex in a blind rage and tackled him to the ground.

“I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!”

Every ounce of fury that had been building was set loose. His laughter only infuriated me more, and I screamed and scraped my nails down his face.
