I’d never wanted to strangle a man so much in my life and that said a lot considering who I’d been dating. The ache between my legs was still messing with my mind and was only enhanced when said male decided to strip fully in front of me. He took his time wandering around his work area. As hard as I tried, I found myself staring at his hard body and the toned lines of his legs, ass, and abs. He had an assortment of intricate tattoos, and then there would be this odd one like the angel and devil fucking on his ass cheek that didn’t seem to fit with his personality. This struck me as strange, and not Cain-like. Either way, they were sexy and made him look even more dangerous, if that was possible. When he walked toward me, he was talking about something I couldn’t comprehend because his hard cock bounced in front of him. I knew what he was doing, yet I still couldn’t peel my eyes away. Hello hormones, goodbye logical thought.

Cain finally put on track pants that he pulled out of some cupboard in the wall, but it didn’t help. The constant swaying of his cock was still apparent even with the stupid pants on, and the situation only managed to play with my brain. As a final bit of torture, he laid down behind me.

Are you fucking kidding me?

How was it you could concurrently want nothing to do with someone and want them to promise you the world and never leave you? My mind was a mess, my body was in worse shape, and I didn’t even dare look at the thing I called a heart, because it flat-out scared me.

No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t fall asleep. Cain’s taller frame was wrapped around me with his arm around my waist, and he was currently holding my hand. Of course, my ass was snuggly pressed up against the full length of his cock while he continuously hummed soft songs that vibrated down my neck and out to the tips of my fingers and toes.

Could one human possess another? It felt like Cain was slowly taking over my thoughts, actions, and emotions. The problem was I didn’t want to fight it. Somewhere along the line, I’d given up the fight and realized he was right. I didn’t want to live the nine-to-five and be normal. I didn’t mind things that others found disturbing. As chained up and contained as I was, I felt freer than I ever had. This was just another conundrum that was Cain Buchanan.

“Cain?”

“Hmm?”

“Can I ask you something?” I kept my tone purposefully soft.

“I’m tempted to tell you no, for lying to me before, but what would you like to know?”

“How many people have you killed?”

My body tensed up, and Cain pulled his hand from mine to rub it up and down my hip. It took a minute, but I slowly relaxed again.

“That’s not the question you want to ask me,” he said, and his voice was quiet and soothing like he was massaging me with his voice.

“Yeah, I do.”

“Stop lying, Sunshine. Be honest with yourself and ask me what you really want to know.”

“Can someone like you love?” I swallowed hard.

Not even sure where the question came from, I froze. He stopped humming and pushed himself up, so he was staring down at me. It was the most suitable position I’d seen him in so far. He was the monster under the bed, the thing that mothers warned their children about, and as those blue eyes penetrated mine, I could barely draw a breath.

“Is that what you want…for me to love you?”

I looked away from his unnerving stare and focused on the metal table legs that had been my only view for days. My mind flashed to the woman that had been there not long ago and waited for the fear or guilt to hit, but it didn’t.

Using his finger, he forced me to look at him, and I regretted asking the question. I hated when he did this. I couldn’t stand that he was able to reach inside my mind and pull out all the things I didn’t want to see. It wasn’t fair that he had that ability over me because I felt powerless.“Is that what you want,” he asked again.

“I don’t know,” I said honestly.

I’d never been more confused and torn in my life. I felt like I’d been split into two separate personalities.

Cain tilted his head and inspected my face. I knew what he was thinking. He got this overly serious expression when he was deep in thought. It was subtle, but I noticed it. I saw it as I saw the glimmer of something sadder. His range of emotion may not have been the same, and his urges may have been deemed sick, but under it all, he was still just a man looking for the same things the rest of us were—a place where he belonged and someone to share it with.

“I wouldn’t know what love is, but I can say that from the first moment I saw you, I knew you were different and that feeling has only grown into something more persistent.”

“So you never loved anyone? Not your parents or a girlfriend or even your brother,” I asked, genuinely curious.

“Not my parents. I watched my father die and let it happen. That only brought me joy.” My eyebrows shot up as I sucked in a deep breath. I couldn’t picture killing my father, even with the separation, him moving away, and us growing apart. “Don’t look so shocked. My urges started young, and although I’ve harnessed them into what you see now, I wasn’t always as contained. As for loving my mother, I didn’t love her either.”

“Did you kill her?”

“No, Abel did, but if you want me to be honest with you, I was planning on killing her at some point. There was no motherly attachment between us.” He said and moved a piece of hair away from my face. He was always a contradiction.

“This got dark fast.” Cain smirked, and I wasn’t sure what was funny, but I found myself smirking along with him.

“That’s good, Sunshine. Let it out. Let the world see the real you. If you want to laugh, then laugh. If you want to cry, then cry, but don’t be fake anymore. Not with me.” His eyes were so penetrating that I couldn’t help but wiggle under his stare. “I’ve never had a girlfriend, and as far as my brother goes…I guess I do love him. I mean, I only want to kill him when he gets on my nerves, but that is fleeting, and I’ve always felt protective of him.”
