“Push me to the edge, Red. I want you to. I want passion. I want tenderness. I want all of that. But I want more, too. You want me to be your sex slave? I will. You want me to be totally submissive? Fine.”

She ran her hands down his chest, and his body hardened in response. He wanted to believe her. God, how he wanted to believe her.

“You don’t understand what you’re asking.” She couldn’t. Because whatever she was thinking, he undoubtedly needed it a thousand times more intense.

“That’s only because you haven’t shown me. But I promise, I will let you take whatever you need. I want you to, and not just because I love you … it turns me on, too,” she said, and God, how he wanted to believe that.

“Jo—“

“I swear I’ll tell you if it’s too much. And I’m not even talking about tonight, Red. We have the rest of our lives. All I want is to be the one for you. If you need something, you crave something, you come to me.” She drew a breath. “But if you really can’t, then maybe we’ll call Marjorie together.”

His brows rose, and he wasn’t quite sure he was hearing her right.

“I’m not saying it’s my first choice. I’m saying that I love you, and that I’ll be whatever you need me to be. And if you need me to stand aside or be the second girl, well, we can work it out.”

“That will never happen,” he said. “The call, I mean—but god I love you for suggesting it.”

“Does that mean you trust me? That you’ll come to me? That you won’t hold back?”

“Starting slow?” he said.

“Slow, fast, whatever convinces you that I can be there for you.”

He nodded, not sure how in the hell he’d gotten so lucky to have her as a friend and his lover. She filled his heart. “It’ll be slow,” he said. “I do trust you, Jo. And God knows I need you. But we’ll go slow. And only with you.”

“You’re sure?”

“I’m nervous,” he admitted, the words coming easy because the admission was to Jo. “But I love you, baby. More, I need you. So, yeah. I’m sure. Now come here.”

Her brows rose, but she complied.

“Lay across the bed, face down.”

She did as he asked as he got up, then went to rummage in her bedside table drawer.

“What are you looking for?”

“Found it,” he said, holding up a black Sharpie. He crossed back to her, then used it to write on her ass while she squealed with laughter.

“What are you doing?”

“An IOU,” he said, capping the Sharpie. “For five grand. For services rendered tonight. From now on, though, no payment. Because I own you, baby. Don’t I?”

“Yeah,” she said, laughter in her eyes as she rolled over, then reached out a hand to pull him toward her. “You really do.”

Chapter Twenty-One

When I wake to sunlight streaming through the gaps in the curtains, Red is spooned against me. I sigh, lost in a pleasant haze. “I could get used to this,” I murmur.

He nuzzles my hair. “Do you have any idea what a revelation you are?”

I roll over so that I’m facing him. “Thank you,” I say, then continue when his brow rises. “For agreeing.”

His lips twitch. “I should be thanking you for pushing.”

“I pushed because I meant it,” I tell him. “Promise me you haven’t changed your mind. That you won’t sacrifice anything you need because you think I can’t handle it. I’m a big girl. I promise to say no if I need you to stop or slow down.”

“I promise.”
