It had to be Grant. That was the only single, straight guy I knew. Maybe he sent them to the salon so I couldn’t refuse them at home. Or he had them sent before I kicked him out.
I glanced at the flowers and felt a flash of guilt before I remembered how he’d gone behind my back. He way overstepped and inserted himself into things that were none of his business. If he thought some flowers would fix that he was mistaken. I wasn’t someone that was easily bought.
“They’re pretty though. We can leave them up here.”
Ronny looked at me. “Don’t you want to take them home?”
I shook my head. “Not when I don’t know who they’re from. Plus, I want everyone to enjoy them.”
“Boo.” Sarah called and waved the crowd to disperse.
Ronny remained, watching me. “What happened to the happy glow?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
He rolled his eyes. “Don’t play stupid. You’ve been bouncing around for the past few months in your own little world.”
“Bouncing?”
He smirked. “Yeah, and now you’re all gloomy and sad. What happened?”
“Nothing.”
He pulled me with him around the front desk and stared down at me. “Who is he?”
I had a feeling I wasn’t walking away from this conversation until he had all the answers he wanted.
“He’s no one, not anymore.”
“Well, that sounds like an interesting story. You need to tell me everything, right now.”
Even if I tried to hide in the backroom pretending to be doing inventory or reports, he would follow me. There was no escaping the inquisition.
“Remember my friend Emma?”
He nodded. “The blonde one. The other mom?”
“Right.” She and some of the other girls had come in for cuts and colors and Ronny had been sure to meet each of them. “Well, did she mention who her husband is?”
He shook his head. “I don’t think it came up.”
“Have you heard of Olli Letang?”
His eyes narrowed. “The goalie?”
I nodded. “All of those girls are the wives or girlfriends of guys from the Fury.”
His eyebrows shot up. “No way. How’d you manage to join that group?”
“I met Emma at the group for PPD.”
He slowly nodded. “So, this guy is a hockey player?”
I closed my eyes. “Yeah.”
He shrieked and pulled me in for a hug. “My baby’s got a hockey player!”
“Shhh!” I hushed him and hoped no one else heard. “I don’t want everyone to know.”
