He handed me one.
"I've also discovered Willow has declared war."
I raised an eyebrow.
"On who?"
"Scott."
"What did he do now?"
"He ate the last cinnamon roll before everyone else woke up."
I laughed.
"That's a bold move."
"She's making another batch."
"For peace negotiations?"
"So she says."

The knot in my chest loosened.

Ben joined us a few minutes later.
"No sign of them yet?"
I handed him the binoculars.
"You tell me."
He swept the horizon.
His jaw tightened.
"They're farther back."
"How far?"
"Three... maybe four miles."
Ward frowned.
"They've changed."
Ben lowered the glasses.
"They're still there."
"They're just making sure we know they can disappear."
None of us liked that.
