“Well, that was a miracle,” Draven whispers.

“Yeah,” Eme says with a frown. She questions if Becca truly means it but decides that tonight isn’t the night to dwell on such things.

She turns back around, and they continue a conversation until Logan returns. When he does, he’s dressed in a new shirt, a hoodie, and clean jeans.

“That was fast,” Eme greets, wrapping her arm gently around his waist.

He kisses her on the head. “I told you I wouldn’t be gone long. Why don’t you and Draven go dance? I have to talk to Wayne.”

Because she just got him back, Eme scowls up at him, ready to tell her mate off.

Draven says, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

She agrees with him. Mates are possessive. Dancing with another male would irritate Logan, or at least, it should.

“I trust you not to touch my mate,” Logan growls in warning.

Draven holds up his hands. “Not a finger. Come on, Eme.”

When Eme and Draven are out of earshot, Logan moves closer to Wayne. They stand facing the party, both of them with their arms crossed over their chests.

“Do you think Jim will leave without a word?” Wayne eventually asks.

“Oh, I believe so, but that’s not what I’m worried about.”

“Oh?”

Logan widens his stance, even though it pulls on his stitches. “I want you to follow him.”

A quick whip of his head has Wayne looking at the side of Logan’s face. “Follow him? Where do you think he’ll go? There’s no way Lee will let him into their pack, not with the alliance.”

At the mention of Lee, Logan spies him amid the crowd, talking with another of Logan’s shifters. After tonight, he should be headed back to his own pack, a fact that Logan’s grateful for. He doesn’t hate his father-in-law, but he does wish him gone. “The only place left is-”

“The city,” Wayne finishes breathily.

“Exactly.”

“You think he’ll join the rogues?”

“I think he’ll join them, yes.”

“And what about the rogues? What do you want to do about it?”

Logan thinks about it for a moment. If there’s one thing he’s learned tonight, it’s that he’s too lenient. He needs to buckle down on his duties and get to the bottom of loose ends and the trouble that’s starting to affect his pack. “I want you to secretly investigate them. I want evidence.”

Wayne pauses and inhales slowly. “How many wolves?”

“You. Draven. That’s it.”

He waits for Wayne to respond, but he never does. And so he excuses himself to go dance with his mate, his forever, and the night goes on until the snow clears and the moon shines brightly above them.

He’ll leave the work to his pack mates. Tonight, he’ll enjoy his time with Eme.
