She nodded. “Yes.”
He sent the video call through.
Seconds later, Mac beamed, looking as gorgeous as always as she waved, sitting next to Will in his hotel room. “Hey, you two.”
Lydia turned up the wattage on her smile. “Hi.”
“Hey, squirt,” Will said as he tossed her an easy wink, looking far more put together than he had when they saw each other last. “Ty, it’s good to see you again, man.”
Ty nodded, immediately picking up on the tension on the other side of the screen, noting Will and Mac’s slightly stiff postures despite their happy greetings. “It’s good to see you, too.”
“So,” Mac said. “When did this happen?” She gestured between the two of them. “I need details.”
“Last night,” Lydia told them. “Ty came over, and we figured stuff out. We’re moving in together.”
Mac’s grin was back as she clasped her hands together. “Yay, guys. I’m so happy for you.”
“Congratulations,” Will added.
“Thanks.” Lydia glanced at Ty before she looked at her family again. “How are things with you two?”
Will and Mac looked at each other.
“We’re enjoying time with the kids,” Mac answered.
Lydia nodded, humming quietly in her throat, clearly not buying their act either. “That’s good.”
Ty studied Will and Mac closer—the way Will was careful to make sure that his shoulder didn’t touch his wife’s, and how Mac’s body was slightly turned away from her husband’s. They were trying to pull off ‘civil,’ but he’d learned how to read people a long time ago. There was still plenty of trouble in paradise.
“So, what’s up?” Will asked. “What do you guys want to talk about?”
Lydia snagged Ty’s hand, gripping it tightly. “Uh, we have a few things to tell you.”
Mac’s eyes grew huge. “Are you pregnant? Please, tell me you’re pregnant.”
Lydia’s eyes widened now. “What? No. No, that’s not it. We want to be married first.” She met Ty’s gaze. “Right? You want to be married first?”
He shrugged because he couldn’t care less about what came first. But Lydia was a woman who loved her schedules and timetables. “I’m game for whatever. I just need to be with you.”
“Aw,” Mac said, pressing her hand to her heart.
“But I’m not pregnant,” Lydia reiterated. “We actually want to talk to you guys about our visit this summer.”
Mac’s smile turned into a slight frown. “Okay.”
“Oh God,” Lydia whispered as her pulse pounded in her throat. “I don’t know where to start.”
“I’m former FBI,” Ty chimed in, wanting to move things along and put Lydia out of her misery. They were doing this, so it was time to put it all out on the table. “I handed in my resignation yesterday.”
Will’s gaze sharpened on Ty’s, but he didn’t say anything as Mac’s frown deepened.
“I thought you were a personal trainer,” she said.
Ty nodded. “I have my personal trainer certification. But I’m also an FBI agent. Or I was.”
“The stuff with Monroe House and Richard,” Will said, finally speaking up. “All the bullshit you told me when I said you sounded like a cop.”
Ty nodded, remembering how much he’d wanted to tell Will the truth right then. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t tell you who I was at the time. You were in trouble, and we were on a clock to fix it.”
