All of the invited individuals had shown up, with the exception of Harper’s brother. Logan wondered just why that man hadn’t shown. But he’d solve that mystery later. At the moment, he wanted more intel from his stubborn spy. “From this point forward, either I know everything that is going on with this mission or—”
“Or you kick me out of your life?”
He reached out. Took her hand.
The elevator doors opened.
Logan brought her hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to her knuckles. “No, of course, not. Either I know everything now, I hear it from your lips, or I just go downstairs and I use the right leverage to convince Jamar to tell me everything.” Kick her out of my life? Nope. He was enjoying having her in his life far too much. Something problematic. Something he’d examine closer, later.
She saved my life twice. I want her more than I’ve ever wanted anyone else. Desire burns in my blood each time we touch.
A man would need to be a real idiot to kick a woman like her out of his life. Spy secrets or not.
Charlotte yanked her hand away from him. “He won’t tell you anything.” With that, she made a determined march from the elevator.
Logan’s head tilted as he admired that sweet, sweet ass. Then he followed on her heels. “Ah, is he just like you? True blue, through and through?” Probably. That might be why she and her partner got along so well. They were both sticklers.
“Jamar won’t betray a partner.” She paused near the closed door to his suite. “He won’t disobey orders. Unless—”
“Unless your boss Jezebel tells him to share all, then he won’t do it. Got it. Understood. But that really shouldn’t be a problem.” He unlocked his door. Swung it open. He strode across the threshold, reaching for her hand once again and pulling her with him. “Right, Jezebel?” he called out.
A woman sat in the middle of the suite’s den. Right in the center of his leather couch. Hands folded demurely in her lap. Pearl earrings at her ears. Wearing a black dress. Faint tendrils of silver shot through the darkness of her hair.
“Jezebel?” Charlotte choked out. “What are you doing here, in Logan’s suite?”
Jezebel merely arched one eyebrow. “You’re surprised,” she said to Charlotte. “You…” Her index finger pointed to Logan. “Are not.”
“Nope. You and your crew deactivated the hotel’s security in the hallway so that you could sneak in, but I have an an additional camera that isn’t linked to the others. A back up, if you will, that is focused on the doorway of my suite. When you accessed my place, I got a notice—and a live feed—right on my phone.” He’d been aware that she was in his suite for the last thirty minutes. So, yes, when he’d been offering to fuck Charlotte, he’d known that they couldn’t actually go back up to his suite to do the dirty, dirty deed.
If Charlotte had said yes, I would have just fucked her against the desk. Or the wall. Not like he would have waited to go up upstairs, anyway.
But, back to the matter at hand. “I saw you while I was downstairs listening to my lawyer BS with the local detective.” He strolled toward the bar. Frowned at the full whiskey bottle. “You know, it’s nights like this one that will seriously drive a man to drink.”
“Morris Hart is dead,” Jezebel announced in a dark and intense tone.
“Um. Shocking. Wait, no, I put a knife in his chest so…not shocking.” He turned away from the bar. Since he and Charlotte weren’t alone any longer, he figured the five minutes of being serious would just have to wait until later. Because only Charlotte was going to get a glimpse behind his mask. “What did I do to deserve the honor of a personal visit from the one and only Jezebel Jenkins, shadow extraordinaire at the CIA?”
Jezebel glanced at Charlotte. “Working with him must be a challenge.”
“You have no idea,” Charlotte muttered back.
“But you are doing admirably well,” Jezebel praised her. “You met with some of our main suspects tonight, and I believe you attracted their attention. The plan is going along perfectly.”
“Uh, a man is dead.” Charlotte advanced on her boss. “That was not anywhere in the plan.”
Logan propped his left elbow on the bar and watched the show unfold.
“Logan could have been killed in that alley!” Charlotte’s hair swung with her fury. “If I hadn’t gotten there—”
“I really would have been fine,” he felt compelled to point out. “I can defend myself. Super good at that job. Been doing it for years.”
Both women looked his way. He smiled at them. “Hi, there.”
“I specifically sent Charlotte out tonight in order to keep an eye on you,” Jezebel informed him as she continued to sit on the couch, spine perfectly straight. One leg crossed over the other. “I have no desire for you to be injured during the course of this mission, Logan.”
“Great to know.” He grabbed an empty glass from the bar and saluted her. “I love knowing that people don’t want me to die. Makes me feel extra warm and tingly on the inside.”
“The plan isn’t for you to attract the attention of killers,” Jezebel continued. She pursed her lips. “Charlotte is the one who is supposed to do that.”
