“We didn’t see eye to eye,” Bluestone said simply.
“On what?”
“You name it.”
“I heard that you and Quinn had words before he fired you. What was that particular argument about?”
“His drinking.”
“What about his drinking?”
“I told him I didn’t like it.”
“And he fired you.”
“Not right away.”
“What happened in between?”
“He accused me of stealing gas from the pump.”
“Did you?”
“No.”
“You tell him that?”
“Once Jimmy had something in his head, no use trying to convince him otherwise.”
“So you had words. About his drinking and his accusation of theft. Is that all?”
“One more thing.”
“What?”
“He threatened to beat the hell out of me.”
“Over the gas thing or his drinking?”
“Neither.”
“What then?”
“Because I told him exactly what I thought of him, which wasn’t much.”
“Was he drunk when you told him?”
“He’d been drinking.”
“What did you say?”
“I told him I’d like to see him try.”
“Did he?”
“He was a big man but he had a small spirit. He fired me instead.”
“And then he ends up in the Alabaster River,” Graff said.
