My screen flickered for a moment, and again, I got the sense that was my father letting me know he approved of balance in my life.
Zia clasped her hands under her chin. “Oh, our Beck sounds so grown up.”
“You’re the same age as me,” I said.
“I know, but I’m so mature in comparison to you three bozos.” She smiled. “Okay, let’s allow Beckett to daydream about his lady guest in peace.”
“But first, let’s schedule our next gaming session,” Leif said.
We negotiated back and forth until we settled up on a time that was doable for everyone then Melvin and Leif left the meeting while Zia hung out for a moment longer.
“Really happy for you, Beck,” she said. “You deserve someone nice.”
“Thanks, Z,” I said. “Sadie is definitely nice.”
Zia arched an eyebrow. “With a rocking body?”
“Yes.”
“Nice score, man. Talk soon.” She waved then the video call ended.
Finding Sadie had been a nice score. I hadn’t thought so when we’d first interacted, but that had definitely changed. Had that sound bath she’d given me been infused with some magic that had bespelled me? I truly felt different now. I didn’t have the urge to fill my time with electronic pleasures because something in my real life was bringing me pleasure instead.
Strangely, as with the flickering of my screen earlier, I felt my dad’s presence even with less electronics time. Maybe he was reminding me that my mom had always been more important to him than any gadgets he bought or games he played. He’d always prioritized relationships over technology and I’d used tech to replace the relationship with him that I’d lost when he died.
Sadie, however, was bringing something back to life inside me. Something that knew life was about people.
And love.
My dad’s voice echoed between my ears. If you’ve got love, Beckett, you’ve got all you need.
I’d always had the love of my family, but I’d been wishing for more.
Sadie was more.
I got up from my gaming chair and went into the kitchen for a glass of water. All this evolving had made me thirsty. After I guzzled the water, my gaze caught on some movement outside the window above the sink.
Deer.
A pair of them, one with a full rack, one without. A male and a female. They munched on some greenery that hadn’t fallen victim to autumn yet. Then the female turned and bounded off back into the woods. The way she moved so gracefully reminded me of Sadie. Gliding through the air, landing with precision, beauty in motion.
The male lingered a moment longer, his gaze on where the trees had swallowed his partner. He glanced back at the house—at me—then bounded off after his mate.
I imagined them reuniting at the pond on our property and smiled as I anticipated seeing Sadie again soon.
Chapter Twenty-one
Sadie
I parked in front of a bright yellow house and gave myself a pep talk as my hands squeezed the steering wheel.
“I can do this. I can walk into that house and give my client a wonderful experience. I believe in this work and know what I’m doing.”
I hoped all of that was true. I’d prepared for this first Kalm Kingdom appointment to the best of my ability. I’d tailored the sound bath to focus on the root chakra because the client had indicated upon booking this session that she was having trouble enjoying the present moment. She’d said she’d been worrying too much about past mistakes and future calamities. She wanted help with living more in the now.
I’d built a grounding meditation to help her drop into awareness of the present and to allow her to set the past and future aside. Vanessa had given me some lavender oil and I’d made a few candles with it which should produce a calming effect in my client. I’d planned to go heavy on the root chakra singing bowl to help her vibe with that frequency more. I’d end with my tribal drum to help her concentrate on her heartbeat, her aliveness, her existing in the present.
Hopefully, after this session, my client would feel more able to appreciate where she was currently.
