“Yup. He came in yesterday. He’s home for the next two months now.” Isabel clapped. “I hope you guys can have dinner with us one night.”
“That sounds great. We’ll make it happen.”
“Excellent. See you around.” Isabel and Blaze took off back toward the main office cottage as a black SUV pulled into the driveway.
Catching sight of Sawyer in the driver’s seat, Morgan bolted from the open front door. As soon as he stepped out of the SUV, she wrapped her arms around him, loving how his left arm hooked around her waist and pulled her closer.
“You’re here!” She kissed his jaw then backed up to take in his casted arm. “How do you feel?”
“I felt pretty good hugging you.” He shot her a smile and visions of how they were going to spend tonight multiplied in Morgan’s mind.
“Well, there’s much more where that came from.”
“Good.” He shoved his keys into his jeans pocket. “I do have a slight change in the details of this getaway though. I’m hoping you’re not going to mind.”
“Change?”
He moved to open the back driver’s side door. “An additional guest.”
Morgan peeked in and the most angelic looking child she’d ever seen, dressed almost entirely in purple, looked back at her. The girl had a mass of curls the same shade of black as Sawyer’s hair and eyes that were slightly greener than Sawyer’s hazel ones. There was absolutely no mistaking who this sweet girl belonged to.
“Oh, my,” Morgan said. “It’s Nia.”
“Hi!” Nia waved. “Are you Daddy’s friend?”
“Yes,” Sawyer answered. “This is Morgan.” He turned back to face Morgan. “Tell me this is okay.”
Morgan met his gaze. “Of course it is. Why wouldn’t it be?” She pushed past Sawyer and leaned in to Nia. “I like your pants.”
Nia wiggled her skinny little legs. “Thank you. You have pretty hair.”
“So do you, little one,” Morgan said. “How about we get you free of this seat?”
“Yes, please!”
Morgan unbuckled the girl and helped her out of the SUV. “You look like your daddy.” When Morgan looked over at Sawyer, his beautiful hazel eyes were a little glossy so she took his left hand. “You’re not going to get all blubbery are you, Mr. Center Forward?”
He shook his head, but he didn’t say anything.
She squeezed his hand. “We’re going to have so much fun.”
“Yay!” Nia took Morgan’s free hand. “Daddy said we could build snowmen.”
“Well, let’s get your stuff into the cottage, bundle up, and get building,” Morgan said. “Why don’t you run inside and pick out which bedroom you want?”
Nia took off, yelling yay the whole way into the cottage.
“You’re okay with this?” Sawyer asked. “Because if you’re not, Nia and I can go.”
“If you think I’m letting you or that adorable kid go anywhere, I’m driving you to the local hospital right now because clearly you suffered head trauma when that truck hit you.”
He gave her a full smile now and drew her in close again. “You’re wonderful.”
“You got that right, pal.” She smacked his chest. “Now get inside and make sure she didn’t take the bigger bedroom. I’ll grab this stuff.” She arrowed a thumb to the back of his SUV.
Sawyer planted a kiss on her lips that told Morgan he still intended to have adult fun after dark.
Yippee!
