“That’s because Sawyer and I came with only the clothes we were wearing. If we left anything behind, we would have immediately noticed.”

Isabel chuckled. “That’s true. I love that you guys came to the cottages on a whim. It’s so romantic.”

“Well, we’d like to whim it up again, but maybe with a bit more planning.” Morgan explained about Sawyer getting hurt and how they wanted to spend some of his time off at the cottages.

“It sucks that he got hurt,” Isabel said, “but we’d be honored to have you guys back again. Let me see . . .” She hummed an upbeat tune. “Okay, I actually have the cottage you guys were in last time available. Do you want that one again?”

“Sure. That cottage was lovely.”

“Hint: They’re all lovely,” Isabel said. “I designed them with loveliness in mind.”

“Well, you achieved your goal.” Again, Morgan was in awe of Isabel’s drive and passion for running her resort. “You don’t happen to be a life coach on the side, do you?”

Isabel laughed. “A life coach? No, but you’re booking a cottage to stay in with a super sexy athlete. Life sounds as if it’s going all right for you, honey.”

“When you put it that way . . .”

“Got to look at the glass as half full, Morgan. Be grateful for what the universe is giving you. That’s the only way to fill the glass completely.”

“That sounds like life coach advice.”

“Maybe,” Isabel said, “but I still think I’ll stick to managing this resort.”

They finalized the cottage booking then Morgan went in search of her sisters. She found them in the kitchen, pestering the chef.

“Is Sawyer okay?” Brooke asked.

“Yeah,” Claire said. “Sorry if we were making jokes.”

“He’s fine and it’s fine.” Morgan stole a carrot stick from the chef and munched on it. “We’ve actually spun this misfortune into a chance to see each other.”

“Crafty,” Brooke said.

“Well played,” Claire added.

“I thought so too.” Morgan took a little bow. “We’re heading back to Vermont.”

“You like it there, don’t you?” Claire asked.

“Of course she does,” Brooke said. “It’s where she gets laid.”

The chef coughed and Morgan gave Brooke a stern look before she motioned with her head that they should continue this discussion elsewhere. She led them to the main living room and put her hands on her hips.

“Are you two going to be okay here while I’m in Vermont?” she asked.

Brooke looked at Claire. “Uh-oh, Momma Morgan is back.”

Morgan gave her sister a little shove. “I’m not trying to be your mother. I’m just a concerned triplet. With Austin not checking in as much, I guess as the next oldest, I should be looking out more for you two.”

“Don’t worry about us,” Claire said. “We know how to entertain ourselves.”

“I know,” Morgan said. “That’s precisely what worries me.”

Her sisters giggled, but then Brooke said, “We’re not going to end up like Summer.”

Morgan swallowed around a tight throat. They didn’t talk about Summer often. Her death was still too fresh. It still hurt too much. She’d only been four years younger than they were so they’d all basically operated like quadruplets. Summer had resembled them too, so it wasn’t far off the mark. Losing her had been devastating, but none of them had the strength to talk freely about her.

Not yet.

“If you need anything,” Morgan said when she found her voice again, “call me.”

“If you answer your phone,” Claire said, “you’re not doing your getaway with the hot hockey player right, dear sister.”

Giggling like teenagers, Claire and Brooke went back to the kitchen to torture the chef some more.

Morgan, on the other hand, went to her room to pack. She was determined to make this getaway with Sawyer unforgettable.
