Brett’s eyes immediately widened. “Morgan? You hooked back up with her? When? How? I need details.”

“I was with my friend in New York a few days ago. We stepped out to a club and she was there.”

“And you guys . . .?” Brett waved his hand, wanting Sawyer to elaborate.

“We flew back to the cottages and . . . caught up.” Sawyer reminded himself not to smile like a dope as he pictured Morgan spread out on that king-sized bed.

“Awesome, man.” Brett mock-punched him in the shoulder. “She was cool.”

She was more than that, but Sawyer merely nodded. “Her coolness has not diminished in the time since we saw her last.”

“Good for you, man.”

They’d parted ways and Sawyer was finally in the privacy of his room. He immediately hit Morgan’s contact and her beautiful face filled the screen when she answered.

“You think I’m wonderful,” she said, her grin flirty.

“You were watching.” He sat on the bed, resting his back against the headboard.

“I said I would be. I raced out of that charity thingy and have been glued to my TV since then. It was a great game. I liked the added drama of a tie though I knew all along the Anchors would win.” She moved the phone so he could see the Anchors sweatshirt she wore.

When she lowered the phone more to show she wore only the sweatshirt, Sawyer let out a groan.

Morgan cupped her ear and angled toward the screen. “What’s that? You don’t like my outfit?”

“Try the exact opposite,” he said. “I love it. Except I’d suggest losing the sweatshirt.”

She grinned. “Not happening, Mr. Center Forward. I only get naked in person.”

“Then we must be in person as soon as possible. Did you check your schedule?” He probably sounded whipped, but he didn’t care. Seeing Morgan on screen only made the need to see her in the flesh more urgent.

“I did and I cross-referenced it with your game schedule.” A little frown appeared on that luscious mouth of hers. “It’s not looking good.”

“I don’t like those words.”

She chuckled softly. “Neither do I, but those are the facts, pal. The earliest I can see us meeting up in person again is the end of March.”

“I really don’t like those words, baby.” He opened up his game schedule, knowing she was right though. With practices, games, and travel time, he was all booked up.

“I don’t have a ton going on,” she said, “but your schedule is aggressive. I’m not blaming you. I’m just stating a fact.”

“Can’t you meet me on the road somewhere?” He was completely aware of the begging in his voice. He rarely begged for anything—except to see Nia—but Morgan was worth it. Sawyer suspected he’d met a person of significant value after his first time with her in Vermont. The second rendezvous only confirmed it.

“I might be able to, but I don’t want to be in your way or ruin your focus,” she said.

“You won’t,” he said quickly. “I won’t have a ton of time, but seeing you for the tiniest fraction is better than waiting a goddamn month.”

“I’ll look again then and throw out a few possibilities that seem the most feasible,” she said. “Keep in mind, however, that I am starting to look for work so my availability may be reduced.”

“Right.” Sawyer forced a smile because he wanted to support her quest to strike out on her own and find a job. His baser instincts, however, wanted her to drop everything and come to see him right fucking now. “Have you started looking yet?”

“So far I took an online test that was supposed to reveal options best suited for a person like me.” Her brow creased. “The results indicated I’d make an excellent sister-who-mooches-off-her-famous-brother.” She huffed out a breath. “I don’t know what skills I have. I fear I don’t have any.”

Sawyer opened his mouth, but he snapped it shut when she glared at him and held up a finger.

“Don’t you dare bring up bedroom skills, Sawyer Lundin, or I will hang up right now.”

He held up his palm. “I swear I wasn’t going to say that. Besides, I don’t want you to share those skills with anyone else.”
