The man knows how to take care of a woman. With his words. With his actions. With his clear attention to detail.

His ability to make me feel cherished and like an object of desire simultaneously is something any woman can appreciate.

“You’re too far away,” he says and slides a hand around my stomach and pulls me against him so that my back is to his front.

His cock is nestled between my ass cheeks and his hands never stop touching me. A lazy slide up and down the swell of my hip. His fingers trailing back and forth over my abdomen. His chin and the soft scrape of his stubble against the curve of my neck. The heat of his body behind me.

“Mmm.” It’s all I can muster.

“What does that mean?”

I shrug but open my eyes and take in his bedroom around me. It’s sparsely furnished but clearly lived in. It’s whites and creams with a touch of browns on rustic wood furniture. It’s the polar opposite of Rossi’s place full of sleek wood and modern black.

Just like the two men are polar opposites.

But there’s no comparison between them for me beyond that. That’s the funny thing. I don’t see Lach and think Rossi would do it this way or that way. It just seems like when I’m with Lachlan, there never was a Rossi except to set a bar that my next boyfriend needs to be above.

“You’re not talking.”

“I’m looking at all your stuff.”

“Snoop away. I have nothing to hide,” he murmurs into the crown of my head.

“You have pictures of your family.”

“Is that a bad thing?” he asks.

“No. It’s very good. It means you like them.”

“Why wouldn’t I like them?” He chuckles.

I shrug again. But the fact that there are pictures in his room of his family says they’re not for show. It means he truly loves them and that makes me smile.

“You’re quiet again.”

“I’m just thinking.”

“About?” he asks.

“It’s just . . .”

“Talk to me, Tink.”

The nickname makes me smile and the safe space he’s created around me makes me comfortable enough to utter my next words. “This has never happened to me before.”

“The sex?” He snorts. “If you tell me you’re a virgin, Blair, I’m not exactly buying it.”

“No. Not that.” I roll my eyes and offer a smile he can’t see while pulling his hand still on my stomach up to my lips. I kiss his fingers, and the fact that they smell like me is oddly satisfying.

“Then what?”

I sigh as I struggle with the words. “I know we just had sex and it was amplified by the waiting and the wanting and all, but—”

“Please tell me you’re not playing this down because I don’t mean to brag, but that was fucking incredible. You are fucking incredible.”

He kisses his way down my shoulder as his fingers slide between my thighs. My body sinks into him as he draws lazy lines up and back over my already hypersensitized skin. It’s the slightest caress but it ignites the still-smoldering ache.

“Lach.” Breathless, I moan his name out, and I can feel his lips spread into a smile on my bare shoulder.
