She looks from me to the door.
"Consider this room our promise to you," I tell her softly. "We'll always find a way to work miracles to make our omega happy."
"Or do bribes," Freddie whispers under his breath, just loud enough that I can't ignore him.
I glare at him over my shoulder, but Mia tugs on my hand to bring my attention back quickly. She bites her lip for a moment. She's waiting to see what we've done.
Trevor sent us pictures, but they still didn't do the space justice. When I push the door open for Mia, I can't believe the room that greets us is the same one I curled my lip up at only days ago.
Strategically placed lamps cast the room in a warm glow that's much more welcoming than the too-bright fluorescent lights.
The tile floor has been replaced with a plush carpet in the same shade of purple as Mia's favorite rug in her apartment. The walls are a fresh off-white for now, but four cans of paint sit near the door. Each one has been matched to existing decor in Mia's apartment to make sure the color choices are ones she likes.
An ornate wood frame in the center of the small room holds a specialty bed designed for nests, the perfect place for an omega to sink into coziness.
Blankets are everywhere.
Not one or two. Not the generic choices we kept on hand at our old place. These blankets are in all shades of purple and every degree of fuzziness.
Anything that makes this space perfect for her.
Most of the blankets are stacked on the repurposed metal shelves against the back wall. Decorative vines have been added to make the existing shelves look less sterile.
There are also a dozen blankets within reach of the bed. Several more draped across the foot of the bed.
Trevor deserves another raise for the blanket situation alone.
This time, we pulled out all the stops to make sure we left space for Mia's personal touch, but without leaving an empty room where her nest should be. All that's missing is our scent, which we're happy to rub all over every surface for her as soon as possible.
I hold my breath waiting for Mia's reaction.
Desperate for something better than the last time.
If she hates this nest as much as the last we offered her, we might actually all be doomed. Might have to consider Freddie's idea of retiring to open a bait shop.
Seeing him afraid of fish might be worth the lifestyle change.
Mia makes a strangled sound, and I can't tell if it's good or bad. Then she spins around, launches herself straight at Freddie, and nearly takes him to the floor.
He catches her with a startled, "oof."
She kisses him full on the mouth.
"Thank you," she says against his lips, breathless and laughing in between kissing him. "Thank you for bribing a public official for me. Though, let's keep that one in the square of trust, okay?"
Zak and I groan in perfect unison.
"Got it." Freddie nods seriously, then mimes zipping his mouth closed.
I'm so glad the guys on the team know better than to take anything he says at face value. If he happens to mention bribery, they'll probably just laugh it off.
As if most of them wouldn't do the same thing for their own omegas.
"How did you get furniture here so fast?" Mia asks suddenly, releasing Freddie so she can walk into the room, stroking her fingers along the lamp shade on the light closest to the door.
"We already had our assistant sourcing some things based on what we noticed you liked in your apartment," I explain. He was grateful for the task since we keep forgetting the poor guy even exists. "So we asked him to move the timeline up today after Coach helped us borrow a helicopter to get back in time for the city council meeting."
"You... borrowed a helicopter?" She pauses for a moment, slowly turning around to face us. "Wait, you all actually have an assistant? I thought that was just one of Freddie's jokes that, for some reason, we were all playing along with. How come I never see the guy?"
