Then say it because he taught me that silence isn’t enough.

His hand stays at my waist.

I take his face between my palms.
“I started birth control.”
He blinks.
“What?”
Despite everything, I laugh.
“I did not expect that expression.”
“When?”
“A few weeks ago.”
“You didn’t have to do that for me.”
“I didn’t.”
That matters.
“I did it for me.”
His eyes search mine.
