I left Koi in the bathroom. I didn’t know how long she was going to take in the bath, but I headed straight to the front desk. Melissa was overseeing the other receptionist when I walked up. She told me she could offer Koi a new room and have her only pay for the one night she had already stayed. Koi was upstairs, but I’m sure she would have accepted the offer.
She was upgraded to a studio suite in a corner room with a view of the Brooklyn skyline. Pleased with the upgrade, I had moved her items to the new room when my phone rang.
“Wassup girl,” my wife sighed into the line.
“Stressed and I need to be fucked. Where are you?”
“In the city, meetings and working.” I felt bad lying to her. Our relationship thrived on communication.
“It figures. Later.”
My wife acted like she didn’t know who I was and what I did for my company. This wasn’t the first, nor would this be the last, time she’d be mad at me for choosing work over her. But there wasn't any way that I was gonna have her and Koi in the same vicinity.
I wasn’t disrespectful with how I moved, and I prided myself on it.
Turning down sex with my wife was weak as hell. But shit, if I told her to come, the drama that would unfold would be worse than me beating my dick for the night.
Roman: Look, I’ll make it up to you. I’m busy, and I apologize for not meeting your needs today.
Regardless of how our situation was in its current state, I loved my wife, and hurting her was the last thing on my mind.
My wife: Don’t worry about it. Go handle your work or maybe “her.”
I ran my hand down my beard in frustration.
Roman: Please don't do that. Aren’t we bigger than this or does nothing of what we established matter when it’s your needs that’s not being met?
Now don’t get me wrong, when my wife and I first got together we were into each other. The love was there, but just like a candle, the flame soon burned out. Once that happened, the petty arguments started and avoiding each other was the norm until she decided to bring up therapy.
At first, I was against that shit. There wasn’t anyone who was on the outside looking in gonna tell me about my household, but somehow the shit ended up working out for us. That was until now.
My wife: Have a good day husband.
I didn’t bother to respond to her sarcastic message. She was horny and clearly acting out on it. Could I blame her? No. But she needed to understand that it wasn’t always about just her needs.
I stepped outside to get some air and light a cigar. I pulled out my phone and dialed my sister's number.
“Kendra, you busy?”
“No, but if you’re calling, then it’s obviously something big.” My sister was eight years younger than me. I watched her grow up into a beautiful and strong woman. So it was no surprise that when I needed to talk about women, I hit her line.
“Yea. So, check this out, I met a chick right. Dope, young, and all that, but she has this crazy ass ex that I had to lay hands on. Fast forward, she’s staying at the hotel I’m working out of, and wifey called me to link up.”
“Don’t tell me you got ya wife coming to that damn hotel, Roman?” Her high pitched voice came through the speaker of the phone.
“Nah, I told her I was busy with work. So naturally she’s upset. But I got ol’ girl up in my room right now.”
“Niggaaaa. Are you crazy? You don’t think Rae would pop up?”
“Nah, she doesn’t know which one I’m at, but also that’s just something we don’t do.” I tried to reassure Kendra, but in all reality, I was hoping she didn’t find out and pop up on my ass.
“Hmm. So, this new woman. Does she know you’re married? What does she think?”
“I told her me and my wife have what we have and that’s that.”
“To be so book smart and smooth, you sure need to figure out how to either end this shit with your wife or you need to tell baby girl she’s just a fuck.”
That sounded nice and all, but I didn’t want Koi to be just a fuck.
