Sonni knew me well because he wasn’t wrong, Gretchen is beautiful in her own right but she wasn’t my type. I preferred the females I fucked with to be brown skin and thick. Gretchen was the exact opposite of what I liked.

“For what? Ion get why y’all sticking around playing fake girlfriends,” I asked through gritted teeth.

A nigga was heated. All the time I wasted on Maddie knowing the bitch was running a game on me. That bitch had to see me, there wasn’t no way she was getting away with this shit.

“Money, Pricilla promised us a fortune we couldn’t imagine if we helped her take all of you down. Her and Sonni wanted all four of you dead. Sonni was supposed to take over in the streets while Pricilla took over all of your businesses.”

“So what y’all was supposed to infiltrate us from the inside out? What y’all supposed to be ghetto spies?” I shook my head not believing the shit a mutha fucka would do to get a little bit of money.

They did everything but go get their own hustle to stack their bread up. Me and my brothers worked for everything we had. Wasn’t shit given to us. We had to hug the block all night just like the next nigga. Sleepless nights and going days without eating just to get our bread right. Mutha fuckas saw where we were now, they didn’t see the blood, sweat and tears we put into this shit. They just wanted to reap the benefits of our hustle.

What was crazy was the people trying to take from us were the ones who could have gotten anything from us without asking. Just cause she gave birth to me I would have given my mama whatever she wanted. Even though she didn’t deserve it, I still gave her the benefit of the doubt. She ain’t even have to work for us she just wanted too. Sonni that little nigga, he always got what he wanted. Why he felt the need to try to fuck us over was beyond me, All of us looked out for Sonni so he would never have to get his hands dirty. That’s why I was so against him being in the streets. He wasn’t about that life and I knew it. I should have known Pricilla was up to something how adamant she was about putting Sonni on.

“Something like that. Pricilla had girls for all of you. Colleen really fell in love with you so she didn’t want to follow through with the plan. I never met the girls she had for Nakeem or Titon.”

“What to y’alls plans happened?”

“Y’all killed Sonni and Riker. Pricilla started spiraling after that. She started talking about killing kids and a bunch of other crazy stuff. Riker and I both decided she was taking shit too far. We just wanted to raise our sons in peace.” Gretchen solemnly responded.

“We didn’t kill Riker,” I informed Gretchen. “We didn’t even know he was dead. We came here hoping to find him.”

“I iii, thought Pricilla said you knew about everything and that’s why you killed Sonni and Riker. She told me if I didn’t leave you all were going to kill me next but I couldn’t miss Riker’s funeral.”

“We ain’t finna kill you. But seeing how Pricilla moving I would leave if I were you.” Ya’ told her lowering his gun.

“Okay, thank you. I’m sorry for being involved in any of this. I swear if I knew people were going to lose their lives I would have never agreed to any of it.” Gretchen sincerely replied. I believed her because she didn’t give me those types of impressions. You could tell she wasn’t a real bitch from the streets.

“Make this a lesson learned. Stay safe.” I said, turning to follow behind Ya’ as he opened the front door.

“Hey!” Gretchen called to us, we stopped both turning to look back at her. “I might be over stepping my boundaries but if you didn’t know about any of this why, why did you kill Riker and Sonni?”

I don’t know if Gretchen was tryna be slick or try to catch us up with her question. “We said we didn’t kill Riker. Take care.” I replied then walked out the door.

Chapter 29

“This shit crazy,” Nakeem said, shaking his head as we filled him and Titon in on what Gretchen had told us.

“Not when you dealing with an evil bitch like Pricilla.” Titon chuckled adverting his attention outside the window.

“What we finna do?” Nakeem asked looking at me.

“All roads lead back to our mama. It’s only one thing to do,” I replied evenly.

I was still thinking over everything Gretchen had told us. I think a nigga was numb at this point. I didn’t even want to understand why Pricilla or Sonni did what they did. All I cared about was handling the situation at hand. If Pricilla could move around and go on about her life I was cool with letting her live. I doubted that was how this shit was finna go. My mama wasn’t going to go through all this shit just to throw in the towel when we confronted her. I’d made my peace with the possibility of having to end my mama’s life. After having to kill Sonni there wasn’t anything else that could hurt me. Killing Sonni had changed me. A lot of shit didn’t bother me the same way it should. I felt like nothing else could break me after that. But it was either him or us, I had to make that call.

“You think she gon’ be sitting in her house just waiting. If she planned all this she gotta know we on to her,” Ya’ said as he drove us around aimlessly.

“It’s a start,” Titon replied just as his phone started to buzz. “What up?” He said placing his phone on speaker.

“You still with yo’ brothers?” A’Milli’s voice came through the speaker.

“Yeah,” Titon replied.

“You know where 4523 Guyer Road is?”

“That’s where Sonni and Solana used to live,” I answered.
