I drag myself from bed and grab my room service. After a luxurious meal, I shower and get ready to head down to the casino. As much as I enjoyed my fantasy, I can’t spend my entire vacation locked in my room getting myself off to visions of the sexy demon.

Chapter 4

Wanna Bet

KALLIE

“Can I get a water and a Crown and coke, please?” I ask a waitress who stops near the penny slot machine I’m currently playing.

“Coming right up,” the beautifully glowing sprite says.

After my shower, I’d dressed in a cute sundress, added a tiny splash of makeup, and checked the carefully coded itinerary. The majority of my shows weren't until later this evening, with the exception of a musical I adore that Mel got me tickets to. I set an alarm on my watch to make sure I’d have ample time to get from the casino to the upper deck, and headed for the casino to try my luck.

I turn back to the slot machine and try to remember all the videos I watched about slot machine strategy. Something about the timing of the wheels. I go cross-eyed trying to match the images.

“Penny for your thoughts?” a deep voice says from behind me.

My smile is instant as I glance over my shoulder.

“Couldn’t help yourself, could you?” I giggle as I watch a sexy smirk appear on Evren’s face.

“Too good to pass up,” he chuckles, taking a seat next to me. “Any luck?”

I groan and pause my play to angle myself toward him. “Not yet. I watched all these videos about how to time things so the wheels stop and match, but it’s way harder than the videos make it seem. I’m shocked my eyes aren’t permanently crossed.”

The rich sound of Evren’s laugh fills my ears, making me smile broader.

“We can’t have that now, can we?” He chuckles.

I shake my head and glance back at the spinning wheels, feeling dizzy already.

“I’d rather not. It would make work a bit complicated.”

He places his own card in the machine, which lights up and begins playing a loud tune to match the one coming out of mine.

“Good luck,” I say as I begin randomly hitting the stop button and trying sheer dumb luck in favor of strategy.

“You too,” he says before focusing on the machine. We play in silence for a few minutes, though I swear I can feel his eyes on me.

After a while, I start to hear grumbles and mumbles coming from my sexy demon neighbor. Sure enough, when I finally give up and turn to Evren, he has a deep scowl on his face.

“No luck?” I ask as I cash out of my machine.

“This is clearly rigged,” he says, affronted and leering at the machine in front of him. I have to fight the urge to laugh at his agitated expression. This massive, powerful demon, bested by a slot machine. Priceless.

“Well, the saying is the house always wins.”

“Rigged. Rigged, robotic money suckers. Bullshit.” He says, punctuating each word. “Are you done playing?” He asks as I stand.

“Slot machines? Yes. I think I’ll try my luck at cards. Care to join me?” I might be done with this slot machine, but I am most definitely not done with Evren.

His smile is wide and instant. “Absolutely,” he says, rising from his seat and offering me his arm. “Shall we?”

“Such a gentleman,” I say teasingly, though in truth, I absolutely love it.

He inclines his head and navigates us through the casino floor crowd to a blackjack table. He pulls out my chair for me, then takes a seat next to me.

“Play before?” I ask as the dealer takes our bets and shuffles.
