CHAPTER FOUR

. . .

Olivia was still flying high from her date with James on Sunday evening. But however magical the date had been, she knew she needed to step back into reality. There was nothing more reality inducing than thinking about what all she needed to accomplish at work tomorrow.

When the phone rang, Olivia almost didn’t answer it. Afraid it was James, afraid it wasn’t. Seeing Jenny’s name flash on the screen, she sighed in relief. Jenny would help bring her down from the cloud she’d been walking on.

“So, spill, girlfriend.” Jenny gushed as soon as Olivia answered. Jenny had been away on a business trip all weekend. Olivia had texted her to tell her about her date with James but hadn’t provided any details.

“Is it possible to fall in love this fast?”

The line went silent before Jenny replied cautiously, “Of course it is.”

“But. I hear a but in that.” Olivia sat down on the couch.

“There is. First though, tell me about the date. Maybe it wasn’t quite as magical as your memory is telling you.”

“But it was, Jenny.” She almost whined. “It was…beyond amazing.” Unable to just sit on her couch, she got up and started pacing the floor. “He borrowed this boat, a yacht really. And took us out into the bay. We had a picnic on the deck, and we watched the sun set. And then we danced.”

“Take a deep breath, girl.” Jenny’s voice was level as she spoke again. “And then what happened?”

“And then we kissed.”

“And that’s it?” Jenny asked. Olivia noted the concern in her voice.

“Yes, that’s it.” There had been a lot more than just kissing, but Olivia for some reason wasn’t ready to share the intimate details of her time with James even with her best friend.

“So, he’s taken you on one date and you think you’ve met Mr. Right.”

Olivia bit her lip. “Maybe. He’s just so charming and…well, he’s nice, Jenny.”

Jenny snorted skeptically. “How can you tell that? You barely even know him.”

“I don’t know,” Olivia said stubbornly. “I just have this feeling that he’s a good person.”

Jenny sighed. “Maybe he is, but you need to slow down.”

Olivia sighed. They were friends for a reason. They kept each other grounded. But how could she slow down when all she wanted was to be with him? “You’re right. In fact, he hasn’t even called me.”

“What? No,” Jenny teased. “After only twenty-four hours he hasn’t beat a hasty path to your door, demanding you give him your V-card?”

“Hardee, har-har. Besides, he doesn’t know I have a V-card.” She grew silent for a moment. “Do you think that will upset him?”

Jenny burst into laughter. “Oh, Olivia, you are so innocent, it’s almost scary.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means, that any man, would be more than happy to pop your cherry. You are one fine piece of ass, and you’d see that if you’d only gain a little confidence.”

“And how am I supposed to do that? You’re basically warning me away from James.” Olivia sighed in frustration. “Do you give these mixed signals to the men you date?”

“Yep, keeps them on their toes. And I did not warn you away from James. I cautioned you to be careful.”

“I know. I know. But he’s just so…”

“Handsome? Sexy as sin?” Jenny laughed. “Fall a little in love, sweetheart, but don’t give your heart to him too soon. I know you. You want that once-in-a-lifetime love.”

“You’re right. Here’s to savoring each moment of this fairy tale, for as long as it lasts.”
