CHAPTER FIVE

. . .

Olivia’s inexperience, and if she admitted, her worries over her desirability, were rearing their ugly heads as James led her up the walkway to his house. Just like the boat, it seemed a bit too expensive for a bartender to afford. Not that what James did for a living mattered. She would want to be with him no matter what he did. That was the one thing she’d always admired about her parents. They had stuck together through the thick and thin times. And there had been some difficult years. Now, thankfully, they were set to retire and enjoy a little bit of life.

That’s what she wanted. To enjoy her life before it slipped through her fingers.

And truthfully, she’d rather have someone—James—by her side rather than go through the years alone.

“Make yourself at home,” he said as he opened the door. Olivia walked in, immediately struck by the beautiful interior. The open-concept space was decorated in minimal, modern style with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked a wooded area.

“You have an incredible place,” she whispered.

James shrugged. “It’s more space than I really need. I bought it when the market was good. I tend to rattle around in here all by myself. I’m glad I have it to share with you now.” He gave her a wide smile that made her heart flutter.

He moved to the kitchen taking out a bottle of wine and pouring each of them a glass. They sat on the couch, sipping their wine for several moments.

James put down his glass and then took hers. “I’m glad you’re here, Olivia.” He gazed at her intently. Olivia’s heart raced at the implication. She wanted nothing more than to take the next natural step in their relationship.

Go to bed with him.

But a part of her was still hesitant to move too fast.

Seeing her uncertainty, James said softly, “No pressure. We’ll go as slowly as you like. I’m in no rush.”

“I’m not sure. My heart has been…bruised before.”

“Not broken?”

She shook her head. “No. I guess I don’t trust easily.”

“I understand. That doesn’t mean I don’t want you, Olivia. In my bed. Beneath me. Loving you.”

Olivia knew this was the time she should tell him about her experience—or rather lack there of. But he was a very sophisticated man, even though he was a bartender. He exuded charm and sexuality on a scale she’d never encountered before. Not that she’d encountered that many men in her past. She had to stop those thoughts leading her down a rabbit hole. This was her moment with James. Everything was new. There was no past, no future. Only the present.

She bit her lip and looked up at him and whispered, “I want that too, James. I want you.”

He leaned closer, his body radiating heat and lust and desire. Olivia felt the same things. Her body was wet with wanting.

He cupped her face, bending his head and capturing her lips in a slow, sensual kiss. As he continued to kiss her as if she was the most desirable woman in the world, her self-doubts silenced themselves. She knew this was too fast, that she should be cautious…yet she couldn’t deny it was exactly what she found herself dreaming of. She gave herself over to passion’s spell. To James’s touch. Reality could wait until dawn. Tonight belonged to the fairy tale.

The rest of the world faded away, and in that moment, Olivia knew she’d already done the most dangerous things she could—she’d lost her heart to this man.

“Take me to bed, James.”

They went up the stairs to James’s bedroom hand in hand. Once inside, he stopped and pulled her to him. His kiss, like before, was tender and unhurried. Reassured by his patience, she relaxed into his embrace. She wasn’t afraid of the act itself, but what it would do to her heart. His hands roamed over her body and every inch came alive and she found herself surrendering to the pleasure of his touch.

“You feel like heaven. So soft, so sweet.” His mouth moved across hers and in an instinctive response, her lips moved in tune with his own. The kisses soon changed, and he was ravaging her mouth, unbale to get close enough. Their tongues slid against each other in a duel. He cupped the back of her head, guiding her. Instinctively, her hands went around the back of his neck. With a growl, he lifted one of her legs and wrapped it around his hips. His hand slipped under her dress, inching higher along her inner thigh, fingering the edge of her panties. She shifted, opening her legs wide. He slid one finger over her satin panties, pressing along her wet, swollen slit.

A small moan escaped her, and she felt his smile against her lips.

“You like that?”

“Yes.”

“Oh, baby, you going to be blown away by what happens next.:

With a low growl he gripped her panties and slowly peeled them off. She wasn’t completely shaved, but trimmed. He murmured his approval as he ran his fingers across her mound. Next, he lowered her to the edge of the bed, lifting her legs until she was wide and exposed. “So beautiful. So wet for me.”
