Niko swore under his breath. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“I am not,” Luca said.

He shifted the display again, highlighting movement clusters.

“These signatures,” he said. “Logistics patterns and timing windows. The way they stagger movement to avoid detection. This is how the Directorate operates.”

Kael stepped closer to the table, eyes scanning the data himself now. “So, Crucible is feeding them.”

“Yes. And if I were a betting man, I would say they were feeding them both money and people, the drivers for sure.”

Keanu shook his head slightly. “That doesn’t make sense. Crucible’s messy. Aggressive. Opportunistic. The directorate’s ... not.”

“Exactly,” Luca said. “They’re not the same. They don’t operate the same way. They don’t build the same way.” He tapped the Crucible routes again. “This is testing. Selection. High-risk filtering.” Then the Directorate overlay. “This is deployment.”

Keanu’s jaw tightened. “So, they’re taking the ones who survive...”

“...and integrating them into the Directorate,” Alexios finished.

Luca nodded. “Yes. They’re building the perfect operators. Men who do not fear, who work well under fire, and have absolutely no moral compass.”

Kael’s expression didn’t change—but something in the room did. “How long has this fucking shit been going on, and why haven’t we caught wind of anything?”

Luca pulled up the timeline.

Longer than any of them were going to like.

“Months,” he said. “Maybe longer. We didn’t connect it, because they are so different. There is nothing logically there that says these two organizations are working together.”

Keanu dragged a hand over his jaw. “And we just hit one node and killed their leadership.”

“Yes,” Luca said.

Rangi let out a slow breath, rolling his shoulders as the weight of it settled.

Crucible. Gone.

Not disrupted.

Finished.

The system they had walked into—the one that had processed drivers like expendable parts—wasn’t running anymore. They had cut it out at the root.

“Then Crucible is done,” Keanu said quietly.

Luca’s gaze flicked to him.

“Crucible,” he said, “was never the point.”

The room stilled.

Rangi huffed a short breath, something sharp and humorless in it. “Figures.”

Alexios stepped forward slightly, eyes still on the data.

“The node is gone,” he said. “Leadership eliminated. Infrastructure compromised. But the system it fed into remains.”

“Yes,” Luca said.
