Before heading to the office the next morning, they made love once more and then joined the team for breakfast.

“I have to ask,” she said looking at Hex and Eric, “you guys seem to have every profession known to man here. Do you have a real estate agent?

“Why would you need that?” asked Mike in a panic. She giggled and shook her head.

“I need to sell my house, Mike.”

“Oh. Right.”

The men laughed at him, shaking their heads.

“It’s okay, Mike. Believe me we’ve all been where you are, praying that the women we love don’t see our cracks and flaws.”

“Oh, I see them,” smiled Everest. “They just make me love him more.”

“Now, that’s spoken like a true Belle Fleur woman,” grinned Eric. “We don’t have a real estate agent here but we can connect you to someone we know. We’ll have the repairs on your house done by the end of the week and then put it up for sale. Grant can help you determine an appropriate price.”

“Wonderful,” said Everest.

“I hate to break this up,” said Cam walking toward them, “but it’s time to get to work. We need to be prepared for any possibility of your meeting with Alice.”

“Right. Alice,” frowned Everest.

“Honey, you don’t have to do this if you’re scared. No one will blame you. We can figure something else out,” said Mike.

“No. No, I need to meet with her and try to find out what it is she wants done to the system.” Cam smiled at the woman, giving Mike a wink. He’d done well waiting for this woman. In this case, patience paid off. Big time!

“Then let’s get to work.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

“No matter what she says, do not go off with her alone,” said Luke. “Stay in the office. We’ve planted cameras to be able to see everything. You have to get her to admit what she knows about Med-Tech and TMCheed.”

“O-okay,” said Everest nervously.

“Everest, you don’t have to do this,” said Mike.

“I do have to do this,” said Everest. “I’m doing for it everyone who was wronged by their actions but in some small way, I’m also doing it for Colt. He didn’t deserve to die.”

They all nodded at her as she left the SUV. They were four blocks from the building, Everest would walk the rest of the way. She wasn’t sure where they would be in relation to the office. It was better that way. Then she wouldn’t be nervously looking from one corner to the next.

When she walked through the glass revolving door the security guard looked up, unsure of who she was at first. Then John gasped.

“Miss Marshall!”

“Hello, John,” she smiled.

“Miss Marshall, you look incredible! Retirement looks amazing on you.”

“Thank you, John,” she chuckled, shaking her head. “I guess I need a visitor’s badge. I’m meeting Alice upstairs today.”

“You are?” he frowned.

“Yes. She asked me to meet her at ten. Am I too early?” she said with some surprise.

“No. No, it’s ten o’clock but Med-Tech told all their employees that they could have the week off considering all the strange things that have happened.” Everest tried to look confused, like she didn’t know what he was talking about.

“Strange things?”
