Chapter Fifteen
Elijah
“My brother!”
Grant greeted me with his usual upbeat mood. A day didn’t go by when I didn’t feel thankful that this man’s mental health wasn’t completely destroyed by the shitstorm he endured in captivity.
“Hey, big man. I’d ask how you are, but you sound like you just had your dick sucked.” I laughed.
“How’d you guess?”
“Oh, Christ. Don’t even go there, dude.”
“Are you going to try to tell me you and that hot blonde are still sleeping in different rooms?”
“No, not saying that at all.” I laughed again. “I just don’t want to think about your sex life these days. You know what I mean?”
“We’ve come a long way, haven’t we? Wasn’t too long ago we all but shared a sex life.” Now he laughed.
“Funny you bring that up. That’s kind of why I’m calling.”
“Nah, man, I’m pretty sure Rio won’t pull a four-way with you guys.”
“Ass. That’s not what I’m talking about.” I rubbed the tension gathering in my forehead.
“Well, it was either that or you want to talk about Shawna, and I was hoping like hell it wasn’t her again. That chick is like a bad penny, isn’t she?”
“You have no idea.”
“What’s going on?” my best friend asked.
So I set about explaining the situation to him. “I got home from the airport this afternoon, and she was inside the house.”
“Did you say in the house?”
“That’s what I said.”
“Where was Hannah?”
“On her way home. I got here before her, thank fuck. But according to a disturbing conversation Shawna and I had while we waited for the police to arrive, she thought I was still out of town.”
Grant whistled low between his teeth. “Oh, you can’t be serious. Dude, she’s completely lost it. What are you going to do? Did they take her in?”
“No. I agreed to a restraining order.”
“What? Why the fuck didn’t you have her crazy stalker ass arrested? Have you lost your mind too?”
“Well, you would be the resident expert, wouldn’t you?”
“Don’t be a douchebag. I don’t want to be called to the morgue to identify you, asshole. I’m sure even your pretty face won’t look good dead.”
“She’s blackmailing me.”
“Wait. What?” He choked out both halves of the remark. “Did you just say she’s blackmailing you?”
“That’s exactly what I said. So do not breathe a word of this to Rio.”
“Dude. We don’t keep secrets.”
