“I know. That’s how it’s supposed to feel. It ain’t wrong and it ain’t no demonic possession. This might be overwhelming, but I won’t let no harm come to you.”

Kit’s expression softened. He was no longer wracked by need and self-revulsion.

“Let’s make it good, aye, together.” Our eyes were locked now. Kit lifted his arse and replied in one, two thrusts, rubbing his hard prick against mine, making me gasp. And then, as if it was predestined, our bodies moved as if by their own volition. Kit lifted his head and captured my mouth in a blistering kiss as he rocked against me, again and again. Our movements became urgent and then he cried out. There was such a joyful sound of release as his spend erupted, giving me a bit of warm slick to ease my rutting. I clung to him as his climax wracked his body, the feeling of his pulsing shudders pushing me over the edge. He held onto me too as I blew my load, and then we lay in a sticky mess, panting as our hearts raced.

I recalled what happened every time Napier was done with Kit, how he would leave Kit bereft, and so I rolled off him, but then I pulled Kit with me to my side. He laid his head on my chest, and I ran my fingers through his mop of soft curls. Neither of us spoke and within moments he was asleep. I soon followed.

We were woken sometime later by the drunken roaring of a man and then the sound of a door slamming. Kit jumped up like he’d been whipped and then remembering where he was, and who he was in bed with, his eyes darted to me. He knew as well as I did that the man causing a commotion was General Edward Napier. He had that parade-ground bellow that must have put the fear of God into soldiers, no matter the rank. Then I remembered why Napier was bellowing—he’d been stood up and by the sound of the commotion he was causing, he didn’t like it, not one bit.

“I think you’d do well to lay low for a day or so, don’t you?” I said warily.

“Indeed. I’ve seen him in these foul moods when he doesn’t get his way. He’ll go to a gaming hell, drink himself into a stupor, and end up at his club.”

“Whatcha gonna do?”

“I don’t know!”

“We can stay here for a while longer, or you could come to mine,” I suggested.

“Will your sister not be alarmed?”

“Nah, Elowen’s as good as gold. Just as long as I’m home before midnight during the week she don’t make a fuss.”
