Why did he have to talk? I wanted to grab denial by the horns right now, but his words shattered the illusion.
The blood in my veins heated as his middle finger slipped inside me.
“No!” The word burst from me before I could think better of it. I stumbled back but didn’t get far with the glass window blocking my escape and the digit inside me, keeping me in place. “Wait. Wait. Wait. This is happening too fast.”
I tried to pull him out of me, but Kai was stronger. He flicked away the hold I had around his wrist and slipped another finger inside me. Even as shame washed over me, my back arched when he applied pressure to my G-spot.
It wasn’t supposed to happen this way. I never expected to react this way, flip-flopping between desire and abhorrence.
“It’s okay,” he cooed when I closed my eyes. “Look at me, baby.”
The term of endearment caught me off guard, and my eyes snapped open. Kai wasn’t an emotional man. Thus far, he had treated everything, even intimacy, like a business transaction.
He pressed his forehead to mine, his breath coming in shallow bursts. “Let me have this,” he whispered. “Please, Amelie. This is all I’m asking for.”
I didn’t have a choice in the matter, even if I didn’t want him touching me. I was contractually bound to marital relations. I could only hope Kai would keep his promise not to go all the way tonight. Because there was nothing I could do if he changed his mind. Saying no was utterly pointless. Because the truth was, Kai could do whatever he wanted to me, and there was no one here to stop him.
Kai kissed me again, then pulled out his fingers. I froze when he tugged me toward the bed. Fear filled me, making me stop dead in my tracks.
Catching my horrified expression, he explained, “I want to hold you.” His breath was warm on my skin.
In a single motion, he lifted me off my feet. The steady thud of his heart filled my ears, and his bergamot and vanilla scent filled my lungs.
He placed me gently on the edge of the bed and removed his unbuttoned shirt. I let my eyelids fall and kept my protests locked behind my teeth when he bent over, hand caressing my cheek.
Kai’s whisper brushed against my ear. “You’re gorgeous.” His palm traced circles on my stomach. “Fucking perfect.”
A gasp rose in my throat at his warm touch. “Kai, I don’t know if I can—”
“We’ll take it slow,” he murmured, his lips finding mine, fingers threading through my hair.
I lay on my back and was suddenly starkly aware of my nakedness. No one other than Stefan had seen me without clothes.
Even as panic swirled inside me, a more ridiculous thought nagged at me. A man of Kai’s caliber was used to sleeping with perfect-ten models. I was a seven at best or an eight on a good day. How could I live up to his expectations?
He stopped me when I tried to pull the covers over us.
“You’re fucking beautiful. Let me see you.” His voice was so tender it made my stomach lurch. He pressed his mouth to my ear as his hand resumed stroking me between my trembling thighs.
All I could think of was whether he was comparing my body to someone from his past. There was no way I measured up to the kind of women he had been with.
He must have noticed the conflict on my face.
“You’re not just beautiful. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
I stopped squirming.
He kissed my face and neck, his tongue tracing my skin. He slid between my legs, and suddenly his weight was on top of me. I gasped, raising my hands to his chest.
“I’ll keep my word,” he murmured, voice soft but insistent. “I just want to make you feel good.”
His body pressed against mine, but instead of crushing me, it felt unexpectedly light, protective almost.
“Open your legs,” he instructed.
Could I refuse?
No, not after he was already compromising on sex.
