Edra stared at him, that look that was often followed by ‘you are such a hatchling’. “Same ass, different form.”
Jordan blinked. To Edra, it made no difference. He needed to wrap his head around that. “Okay, then why don’t lesser dragons do that when shifted?”
“You’ve smelled dragon poop.”
That was a hard thing to forget. “Unfortunately.”
Edra just gave him the look like he should be able to work it out. He had nothing.
Edra lifted his eyebrows. “If we stay shifted for too long…”
“Ohhh…” No one wanted to risk getting dragon shit on their dick in case the smell never washed off. “Right.” He glanced at his dick.
“I’m talking over a week, not a few hours, but it’s one of those things. It’s not polite to meet a lesser dragon and ask how long they’ve been shifted for.”
“But Lyo?”
Edra shook his head. “We were together for a long time, but it honestly never occurred to me back then. Why would it?”
“But it occurred to you tonight?”
“Oh no, it occurred to me the first time we fucked, but I didn’t know if you’d ever want to bend me over the dining table so I could spread my wings at the same time.”
That was an image that would resurface every time he sat at the dining table. “You never said anything?”
“Because it wasn’t something I was used to thinking about or wanting.” He leaned over and kissed him. “But I knew you’d want me in dragon form at some point from the way you looked at me when shifted.”
“Really?”
“Remember when you saw me on the hood of the car?”
“Yeah, you were interfering in a case.”
“Helping.”
“Sure.”
“Even then, you wanted to lick me.” Edra licked Jordan’s cheek for emphasis. “I could smell it on your skin.” He got up. “I’ll get the shower going.”
Jordan tossed a pillow at him. “Maybe when you know so far in advance, you could clue me in?”
Edra caught the pillow with one hand. “You weren’t ready to listen…and I’m patient. Though if this storm is still going tomorrow, I might go for another fly and then take you up on your offer.” His eyes slid over Jordan’s body, leaving no doubt. “Pin you against the glass and fuck you like you are the pretty butterfly. Wear the pink if that’s what you want.”
“Which pink?” The lingerie collection that had once been a small corner of his drawer now had its own drawer.
Edra smiled. “You choose.”
CHAPTER 5
CHRISTMAS WITH SKY AND SNOW
Edra sat on the end of the bed listening to Jordan read Sky and Snow the bedtime story. He didn’t remember bedtime stories when he was a hatchling, but that was a long time ago on a different world. Back then, he wouldn’t have entertained the idea of raising his own hatchlings, as it just wasn’t done. Hatchlings were raised in the rookery, and he was beginning to understand why. It had nothing to do with the ability of lesser dragons to raise their own young and everything to do with the way young lesser dragons had a reckless streak a mile wide that meant they were constantly endangering themselves in ways neither he nor Jordan had ever considered.
They shed their clothes and shifted without a second thought, which meant taking them out in public was an exercise in patience and vigilance. After several unnerving incidents, both hatchlings now wore an anklet with a tracker. It was also very fortunate that small hatchlings couldn’t fly very far.
Half their yard was now covered in netting to prevent them from escaping, while still giving them room to fly. It was apparent that human cities were not designed for small hatchlings. Sometimes he thought it might be easier if they were still in the apartment Jordan had lived in when they first met, but this house was two stories which gave Sky and Snow room to fly in the house—which was its own problem when you had small dragons climbing up curtains and along banisters, or disappearing only to be found curled up asleep on a top shelf. One afternoon, he’d spent three hours looking for Snow, only to find him curled up with a half-eaten block of chocolate on the top shelf of the pantry.
That was now the first place he looked.
