“I’m glad you didn’t.” He kissed the top of Edra’s head. “But we need to learn something about how to raise baby lesser dragons.”
“I’m not sure the rookery provides a handbook.”
“Tell them it’s for your human mate, because books about human toddlers will not be very helpful.”
Edra laughed. “Human toddlers can’t fly, or shift.”
He could already see half a dozen ways that was going to be a problem. That he didn’t need to do anything for the demigod was a relief, because he didn’t know where he’d start. “We’ll need to buy a bigger house. Somewhere more suitable.”
“More mytho, you mean.”
Jordan nodded. “Are you going to argue with me about that?”
Edra grimaced. “No, but it feels wrong, like I’m asking you to move for me and for what I want.”
“I bought my place when I was younger and single and had no idea that I’d end up the mate of the Knight. You have to admit it’s feeling a bit small with Katie there, add in Sky and Snow.” He didn’t attempt their names in dragon.
Edra looked at him. “You've been thinking about this.”
Jordan nodded. “Since you showed me the photos. I've been hoping you'd say you want to raise them.”
“Really?” Edra tilted his head.
“Yes. I want to raise them with you.” Saying what he wanted instead of waiting for Edra was like lifting a weight. They could make a plan and move forward. He leaned over and kissed him. “That is what you want?”
“It is, even though it's not traditional.”
“We can make new ones.” They were going to raise some baby lesser dragons.
Around them, the leaves rustled as if the demigods were laughing at the worries of mortals.
CHAPTER 4
DRAGON TIME
Flying in a storm had always been one of Edra’s favorite things, even though Jordan worried about him being hit by lightning or swept into the side of a building or power line by high winds. So far, it hadn’t happened, but it made it impossible for him to relax while waiting for Edra to return.
Edra always returned energized and horny instead of worn out from flying. The last time Edra had barely shifted before pouncing on him. They’d never made it off the sofa…
Jordan flicked through the TV channels, not really watching anything. Sinner sat on the back of the armchair, gaze on the glass sliding doors as if she were also concerned—not that she’d admit to it.
He checked his watch for what felt like the tenth time in five minutes. Was he staying out longer than usual? Had he gone past the new house and something had fallen on him? They’d bought a place in Creature Hollow, and it was starting to look like a house instead of a ruin now it had a roof, though it wasn’t watertight yet. Hopefully, the storm wouldn’t do much damage or slow work down. Not that they were in a rush, there was still another year until Sky and Snow were able to leave the rookery, but he wanted to be ready, and this place was not suitable for lesser dragon toddlers.
Sinner’s tail twitched, and she sat up.
Jordan peered out into the night but didn’t see anything, which wasn’t unusual as Edra tended to become invisible in the cold.
She jumped down from her perch. “I’ll leave you two alone.”
“Thanks.” Even though he couldn’t see Edra on the patio, she was never wrong.
“I’m not leaving for you; there are some things I don’t want to see. My ears are not so lucky.” She slipped into the spare bedroom where she’d curl up and ignore them, which was better than watching and scoring their performance—he’d threatened to ban her from watching the Olympics after that.
The sliding door cracked open, and Jordan glimpsed a flash of light off silver scales. Almost invisible, but not quite. He got up, not wanting to give Edra a chance to shift this time. Sure, they’d kissed…licked…while Edra was shifted, and while Edra hadn’t said anything about only having sex in his human form, Jordan figured it must be one of those little irks. A bit of grit that wasn’t worth taking your shoe and sock off to deal with until it was too late, and by then, there was a blister.
Not only that, but there was something glorious about Edra when shifted. A giant silvery butterfly who seemed both too delicate and too large to fly at the same time. So even though he’d held Edra while shifted and slept next to him, Edra had always shifted to human before anything happened.
And because he was an idiot, he hadn’t managed to say anything in English or Dragon even though he’d been thinking about it for months…wanting it since the last storm three weeks ago. There wasn’t a good way to say ‘can we fuck while you’re a dragon’ without sounding weird, though he suspected he was the only one in the relationship who thought he’d sound weird. No mytho would think him weird…he was married to a lesser dragon; they’d be more shocked to find out he hadn’t gone there.
