Jordan put his hand out to Sean. “Help me find the baby.”

Sean put down the blanket and water and took Jordan’s hand to climb into the rubble. Jordan was so thankful Sean was with him, and that he wasn’t alone.

CHAPTER 2

THE NIGHT BEFORE…

Jordan was not going to think about tomorrow, only tonight.

The ring on his index finger glinted as he added a little eyeliner—it still looked like the wrong finger to him even though Edra said it was definitely correct. While they weren’t going out, he wanted tonight to be a bit more special than rolling into bed at the end of the day.

Given that he now had a ring marking him as Edra’s mate, it was almost their wedding night. Although mythos didn’t actually care about such things. They didn’t wait for marriage to have sex.

Jordan frowned as he stared at himself in the mirror. Was it wrong to be making a big deal out of this? Edra would be gone for a few days, and he was acting like it was going to be months.

Forever.

The traitorous voice in his head whispered. What if this was their last night?

He swallowed and the expectation he’d put on himself suddenly became too great. He didn’t even like the lingerie he was wearing. He’d liked the color and lace when he’d bought it online but on…hot pink was a color that was too bold and too pink.

Red he could do.

Pale pink was fine.

This was not.

But it was what Edra had pulled out of the drawer. After the helicopter flight they’d had dinner and when they’d gotten home it had been Edra who’d pulled open the lingerie drawer and lifted his eyebrow asking silently if Jordan would. For so long all he’d wanted was someone to at least be accepting if not into it, and now he had that.

And he might lose it. That was the thought that he couldn’t escape, that they weren’t even talking about.

A soft knock on the door dragged his attention back to the moment. He was wasting time.

“Are you planning on coming out?” Edra asked.

“Yeah.” It didn’t matter what he looked like. It mattered that they were together. He ran his fingers through his hair, adjusted the chemise even though it looked fine, then fiddled with the panties. He shook his head. It was easier to blame the color than admit that he was worried. He opened the bathroom door.

Edra stood blocking the doorway, with one hand on the wall by the door frame. He didn’t hesitate, leaning in to take a kiss. “I knew it would look amazing.”

Jordan was pretty sure Edra would say that no matter what he was wearing. “I’m not sure about the pink. It’s a bit much.”

“I love it when you think you look too much.” Edra’s other hand trailed up Jordan’s arm to the silky strap before flicking it off his shoulder and dragging it down until one nipple was exposed.

“What’s the point of me putting it on, if you’re going to take it off in the first thirty seconds?”

Edra grinned. “You were looking a little over dressed.” His finger circled the nipple until it was hard. “And I wanted something to play with.” He captured Jordan’s lips again and this time he pulled Jordan closer.

His hand skimmed down his back, tracing the edge of the lace that barely covered Jordan’s ass and

his dick pressed against Jordan’s hip, hard with appreciation…or should that be desperation? Jordan could feel it thrumming through his body, smothering his doubts and fears.

He cupped Edra’s jaw and ground against him. “Is that all you want?”

“For the moment.” Edra’s tongue flicked over Jordan’s collarbone, then lower. His fingers slid beneath the lace, lifting the hem of the chemise so he could kiss Jordan’s belly button—another thing Edra didn’t have. He glanced up. “Why don’t you lift your hands and hold onto the door frame.”

Jordan did, trusting whatever Edra had planned and more than willing to give him what he needed before he went to LA. His fingertips pressed against the wooden frame.

Edra’s hand smoothed over Jordan’s stomach. “Very nice.”
