His cock was rock hard, pressed between us, against my stomach and he gave a few small thrusts against me. I reached between us, wrapping my fingers around the base of his cock as he sat up a little, and stroked very slowly, dragging my hand to the tip and caressing the crown, which was slick and wet with precum.

He groaned, and it ended on a broken whimper, Callum reaching for himself before letting his hand fall away. “Please. I need…”

I released my grip on him and took his hand, guiding it back to his erection. “Yeah?” I breathed. “Touch yourself. Show me.”

Cal moaned softly as he began, slow at first but picking up pace quickly, his gaze locked on his cock between us as his hand moved, his hips thrusting into his fist at the same time.

“Shit,” he muttered. “I’m…”

“I want to see it.”

Another whimper escaped him as he stroked faster. I reached up and slid a hand to his hip, then lower, to cup his ass. I wanted more of this, more of him, my cock beginning to fill again as I watched him coming apart on top of me.

“Come on. Come all over me.”

Callum’s gaze flicked up from his hand to meet my own eyes. It seemed to be all he needed. He let out a feral groan as his orgasm exploded from him, shooting bursts across my stomach and chest.

As his cock finished pulsing, he gave it one last slow stroke before letting his hand fall away. He took a steadying breath before sitting up and sliding off of my thighs to sit next to me on the bed, chest still heaving.

“Hey,” I murmured, reaching for him. He felt so far away and my chest clenched tight with a feeling I couldn’t name. Anxiety, maybe.

When he looked at me, his expression softened and he lowered to stretch out next to me, rocking toward me for an unhurried kiss. We both let out soft noises as we kissed, little moans and quiet exhales as our heart rates slowed to normal.

After a long time, Cal pulled away and gave me a tender look. “I should…” He gestured toward my body where I was still covered with his release. “Probably should get you a towel.”

I chuckled and shrugged. “Could be worse.”

Callum got up and made his way to the bathroom to wash up. A few moments later, he returned with a warm, wet towel for me, but instead of just handing it over, he tenderly wiped my chest and stomach clean. It made my heart ache, the thorough way he took care of me, the soft look in his eyes, the gentle caress of his fingertips over my now-damp skin. When he was satisfied, he took the washcloth to the bathroom before returning to me.

I was warmed when Cal climbed back onto the bed with me and pressed against my side, and my heart fluttered as I put my arm around him. I traced my fingertips lightly over his skin as I held him close, and we lay quietly for a long time.

Finally, I found the courage to speak. “Are we…” My voice faltered as I ran out of steam. I didn’t know how to ask him what I really wanted to know. Was that okay? Would you like to do it again? Are you really leaving in less than a week?

He pressed a kiss to my chest and nodded, sighing. “Yeah.” Another long moment of quiet passed. “Should we get dinner?”

I swallowed the questions and forced a smile. “Definitely. I’m starving.”

Chapter 22 - Callum

Iwoke the next morning tangled around Paxton, being snuggled against his warm, solid body making me cozy in the chilly hotel room. The feelings from the previous night came rushing back to me all at once—the initial awkwardness, the way a dam broke inside me when he kissed me, the way I wanted nothing more than to watch him come unglued thanks to my hands and mouth.

The sex had been incredible. It felt like we complemented each other perfectly. And then, when it was over, the anxiety I felt had come roaring back. The problem was, I liked Paxton. A lot. But as my travel deadline approached, and my editor pressed me on an answer for the Fermentation Trail assignment, it all felt too complicated. I didn’t know how to reconcile the fact that I never wanted to move back to Foggy Basin with the fact that my feelings for Paxton ran deep.

After a few moments, Pax started to stir under me, inhaling deeply as his arm tightened around me. I looked up at him and gave him a soft, genuine smile.

“Good morning.”

He blinked sleepily a few times and smiled back, but the smile faltered after a second and his body tensed. Before I knew it, he was disentangling our legs and removing his arm from my shoulders. I suppressed a sigh of disappointment and let him pull away.

He’s probably not even interested in something long-term, I told myself. He knows you’re planning to leave in a few days. This is just a summer fling. My stomach ached as I let that thought take up space in my mind.

“Hungry?” I murmured.

He sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. “Yeah, sure. I’m just going to…” He gestured toward the bathroom before getting up. A moment later, he shut the door behind himself and I heard the shower turn on. I took the opportunity to get dressed, heaviness in my chest. We needed to talk about this—soon. I didn’t want to distract him from the meeting, though, so I decided to hold my tongue, at least until after we’d finished the day’s meetings.

I dressed quickly in a plain blue button-up and black pants and waited for Paxton to emerge from the bathroom. When he stepped out, wearing a crisp burgundy dress shirt and dark gray slacks, my heart skipped a beat. I wanted to reach out and pull him close, to kiss him again, breathlessly, until we were far too distracted to go to the meeting.

Once we were both dressed and ready, we headed downstairs and grabbed coffee and bagels from the hotel lobby. Our pitch meeting was scheduled for the morning, with a site visit to a local brewery in the afternoon, and another meeting to follow up on everything and discuss final thoughts near the end of the day. It was going to be a busy day.
