“Yeah, you would,” Amelia says. She winds her arms around my neck, stepping closer. “You want to pursue something with me?”
“I want to be with you.” Laying my cards on the table, I say, “I want something real. And I think we can have that.”
“What about your ex?”
“What about her?” I don’t see what Harper has to do with this.
“Don’t you miss her?”
I shake my head. “To be honest, I was emotionally checked out for a good two years before it ended. I didn’t have the courage to say anything. I thought all marriages were unhappy, and that it was just a part of life.”
She hums, her eyes roving over my face.
“But seeing Tyler and Brandon, seeing Larsson and Vanessa… They give me hope.”
“Hope?”
“Maybe someday, I can find that.” I shake my head. “But that’s too much pressure to put on a new relationship, so forget I said anything.”
“Oh? We’re in a relationship now?” Her eyebrows arch up, a smirk on her face.
“I’d like to be.”
All the remaining tension in her body releases, and she leans into me. “Me, too.”
