I shrug. “I gave him my number last week and he never called me.”
“Oh.” It’s clear he’s not sure what to make of this. “Want me to go beat him up?”
“Nah, I think I’m good,” I tell him, patting his massive shoulder. “I appreciate the sentiment, though, big guy.”
He frowns. “You don’t get to call me that.”
“I don’t?”
“That’s Mase’s name for me,” he says, a little petulantly, and I laugh.
“Okay. I’ll come up with some other nickname for you,” I promise, and he cracks a grin.
Mason and Dvora are talking. At the sound of her name, she popped her head up, smiled in our direction, and returned to her conversation.
“So, do you like the dude?”
I shrug. “I mean, we talked at the bar for a few minutes. He bought me a drink.”
“And then he didn’t have the balls to call you?” He shakes his head in mock disappointment.
“He texted looking for a hookup.”
His eyes go wide. “And you turned him down.”
Biting my lip, I look away. “I might have been a touch inebriated at the time.”
“Shit. Does Barrett know?”
“Know what?”
“That you’ve got the hots for some wimpy hipster dude?”
I roll my eyes. “Okay, so he’s not an athlete, but that doesn’t mean he’s a wimp.”
Tucker coughs “Bullshit” into his fist.
“He seemed nice enough.”
“Yeah, and then he texted you trying to get into your pants, so clearly he’s a stellar dude.”
Mason looks over at this. “What’s going on?”
“Your boyfriend wants to be my overprotective big brother, despite the fact that there is absolutely no reason for him to be.”
Tucker frowns. “That’s not very fair.”
“Barrett doesn’t care who I hook up with. So why does it bother you?”
“I just want this guy to respect you. Drunk texting you for a hookup doesn’t sound like he would treat you the way you deserve to be treated.”
Mason laughs bitterly. “Oh, Tuck, I love you.”
Even Dvora, who I’ve never talked to, is shaking her head. “What planet are you from? Have you never gone on a date?”
“I’ve only ever dated one woman,” he says, and Mason smirks proudly. “I don’t play the dating game.”
“You also had my twin brother ask me out for you because you didn’t have the balls to do it yourself,” she reminds him. She wraps her arm around his. “Luckily, I thought you were the cutest boy in school, or it might not have worked out.”
