Engines follow us, a convoy of devils, streaming down the highway, weaving in and out of the traffic, back to the club.

Back to the little slice of hell, carved out for people like them. Like me.

Chapter 24

Ash

The club feels different tonight. And it's been a long time since it's felt like this.

Usually, the air is tight with restraint, violence leashed but never gone, everybody on edge as the tension simmers between us. Tonight, that tension is gone, replaced by noise and electric energy and careless celebration.

Pulsing dance music pumps through the speakers, red lights flashing in the darkness as the crowd of Devil’s undulate on the dance floor. Everyone has shown up tonight, booths and chairs pushed to the sides, drinks flowing constantly. The red-light spills over the club, bathing the room in something slow and sinful.

This is the Devil’s I know and love.

This is what it is all for.

I look around at all my men spread out across the club, all of them with drinks in their hands and women on their laps. It's an all-out party tonight. Taking a swig from my own drink, I lean against the bar. Matt is watching the same crowd that I'm watching, and I know he is thinking the same thing. It’s like the good old days. The times that I replay in my head when it all gets so heavy in here.

My eyes dart to Griff, his large frame slouched in a seat. Two girls are straddling each thigh; his huge hands wrapped around them and gripping their naked asses. They writhe and arch into his muscular body.

Jax, a guy who spends most of his time at the underground fighting pits, is rutting into some girl against the wall, her legs wrapped tight around his waist while he snarls into her mouth. His hand fists in her hair, tugging her head back so he can bite down on her throat like he’s starving. The girl moans, clawing at him like she can’t get close enough.

Beside him, another devil is stretched out on a couch, his head tipped back in bliss while two women kneel between his legs, competing for his cock.

The entire club has dissolved into chaos, a fevered orgy of sweat, liquor and sin.

Bodies colliding. Clothes half ripped. Moans weaving in with the bass.

Leon is on the dance floor, grinding behind another girl, his hands gripping her hips as he bumps his cock into her ass, laughing and whispering into her ear.

And then there's my angel, my perfect wicked angel, still in her stunning, silky blue dress, hair wild and free, dancing in the middle of the room. The smile she wears is full of life and excitement as her hips sway to the beat hands sliding up her body.

I can't take my eyes off her tonight, something in her has changed. I didn't think she could get any better, any fucking more sexier than she already was, but the look in her eyes as she threw the bomb at Zeke’s casino, lighting it in flames; it made it official. She is everything, and now my men know it too.

I know she knows that I'm the one who murdered Malcolm. She knows it and she's still here.

For once, she hasn’t run.

She knows it was something I had to do. I didn't miss the way she smiled when she made the realization, and it made everything worth it. It made his disgusting sobs, the smell of his piss, and the way it felt to touch his putrid body, all worth it. Even though my back aches from lifting the fucker up and taking him to the top of the building to throw off, it was worth it for a glimpse of her devious little smile.

And now she's here celebrating with my men, our men, and she looks perfect doing it. Moans and whimpers fill the air along with the sensual music, and it's a throwback to what the Devil’s used to be. I didn’t think we would ever get back here, if I’m being honest. Not after our brothers were murdered so brutally, so recently. But my angel brought us back. She gave us this.

I know tomorrow is going to come with repercussions. Zeke is not going to take this lightly. Blowing up one of his primary sources of income will provoke him, pushing him to strike next. There’s no pretending otherwise. It will force him out of the shadows. We are already at war; he made that much clear. He’s been quiet and calculated.

I’m done with that. If war is inevitable, then we might as well be the ones who choose when it begins.

And I knew my angel needed something...so I gave it to her. I gave her the power, just like she gives it back to me. I gave her a choice and boy did she fucking choose it.

She chose it with fire in her eyes and the cutest grin on her face. With makeup still running down her face from how hard I fucked her.

I take another swig of my drink, letting the familiar burn settle me before I turn back to Matt and give him a wink as I reach over the counter and take a bottle of vodka. His eyes sparkle with knowing before I turn and stride towards the middle of the dance floor, where my perfect girl sways to the music.

When I reach her, her eyes flicker open, catching the red light as it spills across her face. There’s a glassy haze to them from the alcohol, but the way she looks at me is anything but unfocused. Her arms loops around my neck as the music pulls us into its rhythm, our bodies pressed tight. She melts into me, and I feel her everywhere.

Lifting the bottle I took, I let the bitter alcohol fill my mouth. She watches me from inches away, lips parted, eyes dark and expectant, blinking up at me. I lean in, close enough to feel her breath hitch, and tip my mouth to hers, letting the vodka pass from my mouth to hers. Her throat works as she swallows; her fingers tighten at the back of my neck. A soft sound slips from her lips, more reaction than noise, and it goes straight through me.

The way she dances, so uninhibited and free, has me grinning down at her, moving with her to the music.
