Deep down I hoped what Tania said was true but the little voice in my head kept asking—why the fuck he would be interested in someone as damaged as you?

Natalie patted my knee. “Are you feeling up to watching a movie? I’m sure Quinn will have something around here worth watching.”

“A movie?”

Again, the two ladies exchanged a glance before Tania explained excitedly, “It’s moving pictures. Actors and actresses are recorded on tape and play out…Fuck, how do you explain it, Nat?”

“You don’t.” Natalie smiled. “Just trust us and watch, Bella.”

“Okay.” I had no idea what I was agreeing to but was willing to do as they asked.

Natalie stood and crossed the room to a cabinet beside the television which was mounted on the wall. One by one, she opened drawers and rummaged through rows of plastic cases before thrusting her arm in the air, one of them gripped in her fist.

“You’ll love this, Arabella. The lead actors are terrific, not to mention pretty sexy, and the music is hot.”

So far it all sounded good. After switching on the television and a device on the shelf below, Natalie removed a black box from the case and slid it into an opening in the device. The television burst into life. One man appeared to be leaving jail and waited for a steel gate to slide open before walking towards another man standing near a car that had a star painted on the side. The music had me wanting to get up and dance, not that I had many moves, but I had seen some of the villagers dancing around the campfire a few times and they seemed to have fun. Tchokai had forbidden me from, as he put it, “moving my body in such a disgusting manner that would attract the attention of the other men.”

“I’ll grab us all a water.” Natalie hurried to the kitchen, and when she returned, handed us all a glass of water, before flopping down beside me.

I had no idea how long the movie had been going when a song the girl’s seemed to like came onto the screen and they bounced to their feet.

“Come and dance with us.” Tania held out a hand and began moving her hips from side to side in time with the music blasting from the television.

“I don’t think Doctor Vincent would be happy with me if he knew I’d been jumping around. Besides, I have no clue how to dance.”

“Fuck, I forgot about you being injured. Okay, watch me and Natalie and learn for next time.”

The girls had me laughing to the point it hurt. While someone sang about shaking your tail feathers, they spun around, bent over, and shook their arses while their fingers wriggled against their tailbones. They were matching what the men on the screen were doing minus the throwing themselves to the floor and flipping themselves over. Tears rained down my cheeks but they were tears of delight. When the hair at the back of my neck prickled, I looked off to one side to see Quinn standing in the doorway.

He was leaning against the wooden frame, arms crossed over his chest, one leg over the other. A grin spread across his face when our eyes met which sent tingles dancing through to the ends of every nerve in my body.

It took a moment or two for the girls to notice him and come to an abrupt stop. Natalie hit a button on the device the black box had been slipped into and the movie froze on the screen.

Quinn pushed away from the door. “Enjoying yourselves, ladies.”

Tania gulped a mouthful of water. “We were educating Arabella on movies, modern music and dancing.”

“So I saw. Have my brothers seen you shake your arses like that?”

“Connor most certainly has…Nat?”

“Oh yeah, Jake is very familiar with my arse shaking.”

Quinn burst into laughter and shook his head. “I have no idea how my brothers are gonna survive you two.”

“It’s “will we all survive them” that you should be asking?”

Quinn’s eyes snapped to mine as Natalie spoke the innocent words that held such sinister meaning in my case. A tension dropped into the air.

“I’ll keep Arabella company now if you two would like to go and find your men. Thanks for coming up to stay with my lady and for educating her on your finest moves.”

My lady? I couldn’t ponder the words as I was distracted when the ladies each kissed my cheeks and promised to catch up again the following day. Quinn escorted them out before returning to stand near where I sat.

“Do you dance?”

I shook my head. “Not really. I used to watch some of the men dancing around the campfire but it was tribal dancing and not like what the girls were doing.”

“Would you like me to teach you?”
