It’s armor, and for whatever reason, he’s handing it to me. It’s not as if he doesn’t have more; he’s always over-prepared, but this still feels like a big deal.

“And promise to call if you need me,” he calls after me but this time doesn’t follow.

“Who says I even have your number?” I call as I push open the door; his laughter is rich and deep behind me, and ‌a smile pulls at my lips as well.

Asshole.

Kol is even pissier than usual because of our dear sister. Somehow, the little minx has managed to continue to give him the slip, and it would be funny if I didn’t feel like I was about to die of blue balls.

I’d been this close; for the last two years, I’ve dreamt of fucking my Little Fox, and while it hadn’t been straight out of my dreams, feeling her pretty lips wrapped around my cock could have gotten me by until we had more time.

I pull out a smoke and light it, dropping into the damn chair as Kol loses his already fragile mind.

“How is one girl constantly able to give us the slip?”

His glass goes flying against the wall, exploding and littering pieces of glass and expensive alcohol all over the place.

“If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. I’ll follow her next week.” I blow ‌the smoke toward him because I know he hates it, but fuck him.

I might be willing to follow our sweet little sister, but I’m still pissed my balls are aching.

“Nobody trusts you to do it after last week, not to mention today,” Isaac says like the bitch he is, because of course he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

“What happened today?”

“Nothing,” I grit out, flicking my cigarette at Isaac when he opens his mouth.

He brushes off the ashes and hots that stick to his jeans and rolls his eyes at me before turning back to face Kolson.

“What did you find?” He changes the subject, and I sink further into the chair when Kol lets him.

“Fuck all.” He throws his hands up in the air before raking them through his hair, making it stick up every which way.

Well, shit.

If there’s anything in life Kol likes, it’s control; he gets off on it the same way I do with the lack of it. His being even less than perfect in public is a sign that he’s cracking.

The last time he cracked, we were burning bodies for a week.

A quick glance at Isaac tells me he sees it, too.

“Following her isn’t a terrible idea. We just need it to be someone else. We’re busy or too unstable to be trusted.” He glares at me, letting me know that last bit was for me, and I flip him the bird.

He’s not wrong exactly, but still, no reason to be a fucking asshole about it.

“Not to mention she knows us. It will be a lot easier for someone she doesn’t know to keep close,” I offer, lighting yet another cigarette because I wasted most of the last one.

Kolson pulls his hands from his hair, his eyes unfocused for a moment before they dilate and he locks in.

“Call him, get him set up with whatever he needs. I want a report in a week on where she’s at and what she’s up to at all times. Not just when she poofs on Saturday. Tell him he’s not to be seen. He might not be one of us, but he’s a big-ass guy. He’s likely to spook her, and if anyone is going to scare our little sister, it's going to be me.”

It’s been two days, and all I can think about is how close I was to making Vixen mine.

This is the second time in less than two weeks I’ve been cockblocked.

I hit the heavy bag and pretend it’s Isaac’s stupid fucking face because if I hit him for real, he’d find a way to fuck with me that I’m not smart enough to fight against.

Brainy bastard.
